Personally, I've been playing poker for 6 years and have not heard of this rule.

I also tend to make decisions based on instinct, however now that I know the 4 2 rule I'll try to put it to good use.

The rule of 4 and 2 is a good one to learn very simple. One important thing to consider is the x4 only applies if you are guarantee to see the river. One way to be sure of this is to be all in. There for on the flop, your chanc of catching a flush draw on the turn is still on 9x2 = 18% for the turn not 9x4=36%
