    Tournaments are high variance so its not always the best if you have a small bankroll.

    Definitely tournament play would be better to start off with, and low stakes, you dont want to be risking a lot of loot

    I think they are two very different variants should study both to see which suits you more but I think the tournament to get started since there know how much is the amount you can lose either 1 or 5 or 30.

    It all depends on your game.. are you a better cash game player? or better tourney player? And if you are better in tournament I suggest what a few others said. Play sit and go's. it's tournament style but you don't have to run extremly good to make it in the money.

    For new players to the game I'd recommend playing FR MTT's and micro SNG's
