I am a terrible poker player....just listening to you guys talk makes me realize I know NOTHING about it. I was hoping someone may have some recommendations on how to get better, perhaps with a youtube instructional video or a book that may have helped you.
Sidenote, I've done well with stocks, so at least I have that going for me lol

To have made $21 in freerolls in less than two months in your freetime, I'd assume that your not as terrible as you say. Keep playing, I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Yeah, you're either being too hard on yourself or you're trying to lull us into a sense of complacency so you can pounce at the right moment. But seriously, if you want to work on your game, the 3-book series by Dan Harrington ("Holdem Expert Strategy for No Limit") is very good - I found the third volume (the workbook) very helpful in my live game. Not sure what might help with online - the variance in online poker is much higher in my opinion. Just never can tell when someone is going to go blind stupid on you and play garbage that leads to a miserable suckout.
I'm not slurring my words. I'm talking in cursive. I believe the ladies find it to be quite elegant.

yes, Harrington made me a poker player - MUST READS. His two cashgame books are quality reads too
Be careful if you're buying a book. Not all players have good poker books. But there are a ton of good ones. TJ Cloutier, Daniel Negreanu, Super System I and II are great...Last edited by buonafide; 01-29-2014 at 10:35 PM.

Winning $24 in forum freerolls in such a short time is awesome
I do not think you could tie your shoes your first attempt. Experience helps us improve, whether it is tying our shoes or playing poker. Also, remember casinos do not get huge hotels giving away money. No, there is a rake that all players have to face even if he is not at the table. So even a winning player may see his funds dwindle due to a hidden player.

I'm in the middle of reading harrington on hold em vol. 2. So far this series has been by far the best books I've read. Some are definitely worse than others, but you can learn something from all of them. The important thing is that if you don't agree with something you've read is whether or not you can make a clear argument against it. At least get your mind thinking from the perspective of other things you've learned. As far as youtube videos go, check out the gripsed youtube page.
I'm gonna give that bitch a freeroll, bitches love freerolls.

You gain a lot more knowledge of the game from playing the game. Enter freeroll's & play with play money to hone your craft. But like other players have mentioned, it looks as if you have done some winning so just stick with it.
