I've found that I can build a bankroll but I can't hold on to it. I can get up to $200, but then my kings consistently run into aces, etc. I'm starting to wonder if it's a coincidence and the "luck of the cards".

Sounds more like bad BRM.
With a $200 roll, you should be playing at a limit where it can stand the variance.
