    PokerStars Acquires Full Tilt Poker through Agreement with Department of Justice

    An agreement between PokerStars and the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has been reached which allows PokerStars to take control of Full Tilt Poker's assets. As part of the deal, PokerStars will directly reimburse all Full Tilt account holders located outside of the United States.

    According to the company's press release, PokerStars will pay the United States a total of $547 million over 3 years, some of which will be used to reimburse American Full Tilt customers. A $225 million payment must be made within 6 days of this announcement.

    Another account with roughly $184 million will be opened to reimburse non-US customers. There will be no restrictions on withdrawals, and this account will be created within 90 days.

    Impact on the charges against PokerStars

    PokerStars has admitted to no wrongdoing in reaching this agreement with the DOJ.

    The deal prohibits PokerStars from employing former Full Tilt management members Raymond Bitar, Howard Lederer, Rafe Furst, Chris Ferguson, and Nelson Burtnick.

    According to Diamond Flush Poker, the civil charges against the PokerStars companies will be dismissed as part of this agreement, while the criminal charges will remain unchanged.

    Additionally, the deal allows both PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker to apply for US gaming licenses in the future when US law allows that as a possibility.

    Full Tilt will reopen

    With respect to the future of Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars plans to re-launch Full Tilt Poker as a new, separate brand from PokerStars. A new management team will be brought in to run it.

    Full Tilt will continue to be based in Dublin, but now operations will be overseen from the Isle of Man.

    Eric Hollreiser, Head of Corporate Communications at PokerStars, stated on the company's corporate blog that "It's too early to begin disclosing many details about our strategic plans for Full Tilt, but our first order of business is to re-open the site, pay back all of the players and begin rebuilding Full Tilt's reputation. Going forward, we will operate Full Tilt as a separate brand, giving players another leading and trusted platform to enjoy the game. The re-launched Full Tilt site will bring back the innovative features, the authentic poker and the cutting-edge software that made it so popular with millions of players worldwide."

    Ray Bitar statement

    Ray Bitar has issued the following statement:

    Over the past few days, I signed the papers necessary to complete Full Tilt?s deal with the US Government. The Company?s assets will now be transferred to PokerStars and Full Tilt employees will have a new employer as well. I believe that this deal will result in Full Tilt?s customers being repaid. I am extremely pleased and excited by this prospect. For the past 15 months, I have worked hard on possible solutions to get players repaid. It has been a very long road, with lots of bumps along the way, but I am glad we have gotten to the end. I only wish that we could have resolved the situation much sooner.

    Today?s settlement also ends the US Government?s legal case against the Full Tilt companies. I am glad that this chapter has closed. I would like to thank the company?s many dedicated employees who helped achieve this result. It has been a pleasure working at Full Tilt and I am grateful for the many friendships and memories that I made there. I wish everyone in the Full Tilt family success in their future endeavors.

    I also extend my best wishes to PokerStars. This is a very creative deal and it should benefit everyone: the players, Full Tilt and PokerStars alike.

    I saw this today and only thing I have to say is this, if Pokerstars sends me an e-mail saying " Drywallman3 we are happy to inform you that you are welcome back to donk at our site" then this is just hype. Our government has the power to boost our economic crisis but doesn't, so doubt getting a license for us players back to Pokerstars is on the top of their to do list. Sorry for being the sour grape of the bunch

    USA players are still years away from every seeing the powers of stars or ftp entering the usa... Im just glad to be getting paid thats all I care about currently esp with the same of online worldwide...

    I think this was a genius move by stars they now control the whole world market with zero competition and UNDERSTAND WHAT PLAYERS WANT... WHICH IS KEY... They control every right if the usa re-opens and Im sure with there due justice with the DOJ they will be the first to get license or there software will be sold to MGM/Wynn and rights to it will be and we will be playing on a taxed usa network...

    This is still a federal and state by state issue with Nevada about to get there license doesnt mean stars/ftpII will be back in the states since they cant it will be wynn/mgm which then will buy-out stars ftp and use that.. that was stars whole point in doing this.

    The thing that is getting boink about this news is that I see many players ( and not here) getting excited like Stars is getting ready for us next week. Yes this is a step forward but a long way off to play there again.

    USA is years away.. yes nevada is about to get regulated but its going to be like 2k max players during peak hours and wont be stars, ftp, or any other big network, and 6.75% taxed have fun...

    We are years away.. But yes its a step in the right direction
