Ok, so just saw your bump so I guess you're still looking at different options, so I'll go ahead and answer your post above. UNLV is pretty close to the strip, If you're on the west side of UNLV it's a long walk to the strip, if you're on the east side you'll want to catch the bus. Paradise is a road that runs parallel to the strip with some extended stay places. You'll want to be careful with where you stay in that area. I used to live just to the east of UNLV, and it wasn't bad, but there are some areas between Maryland Pkwy and Paradise that wouldn't be the safest walking around with large amount of cash at random times of the night. If you're staying in that area you'll probably be catching the Tropicana or Flamingo bus to get to the strip. Those buses are scheduled to run every 30 min at peak times, and once an hour the rest of the time, however when I was riding the bus those often just didn't show up or were running way behind schedule. There's a budget suites on tropicana across from the Orleans. There's some good local action there, so it'd be worth checking out, and it's the closest extended stay I know of close to the strip without actually being on the strip. They might have one further south on on the strip past all the casinos.
