Poker has been around since the 1800's and i have no idea why they call it that. But the name fits

The first version of poker was called "the lying game" and was played on the Mississippi steamboats by the gamblers.
The term itsef probably came from the French or German name "poque" which meant pocket and from poke because the game was pushing the gamblers too far.
Here is a tidbit of info I found about how poker got its name.
