It really depends on the situation. If I'm playing in a cardroom, absolutely not. Sometimes though, I'll have a home game when with some friends who are actually terrible players and everyone wants to drink, smoke, and play poker. In that case, a couple beers or a crown and coke make it a good time. Bottom line, if you are actually trying to make some money, you shouldn't even be smelling booze.

I don't usually drink when I'm playing online just cause I don't usually drink by myself. I'll have a couple drinks when I'm playing a casino sometimes. It usually benefits me, because my playing style doesn't change, but I can become a little more chatty, so all of the middle aged/old men REALLY start to underestimate me since I'm a young looking 26-yr old woman. I also have a high tolerance for alcohol, so the other players tend to assume I'm more intoxicated then I actually am.

i drink alot at the tables if i'm out just to have a good time i'll even buy the whole table around. But if i'm there to play serious i cut my drinking down to about a beer every 2 hrs especially at my regular poker room to give the image that i'm the table drunk.

I occasionally drink while playing . Sometimes it works to my advantage, sometimes not. But it makes for a fun game. It also seems like some players are more friendly when they drink. Happy New Year!

drinking while playing isn't always a losing preposition, depends on the player. for most people it doesn't positively affect your game though
