usually it is every out multiplied by 2.5, per card to come. so on the turn your odds of catching your open ender on river would be roughly 20%. but odds change of course if your outs are folded/ in play. that's just a rough idea.

generally its 2 * Numbers of cards can improve ur hand...
Example:
urs cards: JQo
flop: K 10 2
U have 2 cards to improve urs hand... the 9 or the A to complete the stair
so 8 cards ( four 9s and four As)
then multiplicate 2*Number of cards ( 2 because will come the turn and river)
2*8=16
implicate youve 16 odds
and obviously with all the others factors mencionated by savelapuck and many others

or use a free software like pokerstove so that you wont create a thread every time you need to know the outs

I was playing a live tourny yesterday... Board J 9 3 rainbow.. guy pushes all in and I call with J 9.. he shows 10-8 and hits the straight on the rivier with a 7...

in the freerolls it pretty common. even if you have just one card in your hand
