poker question , pocket 8 utg

So i got pocket 8 utg and i raise 2.5 bb . it folds to bb who reraises to 8 bb. I then muck it. we both have 100 bb, and do to reverse implied odds, i just give up. It just seems a little weak play, i mean i do have a good hand pre , i just dont want the flop to 225 and then i have to call 3 streets. Could i have done anything else here?

you made the right play. #1 you said he never 3bets so that already hints he could be strong. #2 In my opinion whenever blinds raise preflop they are almost always strong, think about it, they're in bad position, they could just call to see a flop, and especially with your play; a raise utg looks strong already so if he's willing to 3bet here he must think you could easily 4bet or at the very least call. I like the fold.

Because he cant let go of this medium PP, lol.
To be honest, raising 88 from UTG is dangerous, because you have to fold it against a reraise in my opinion (like you correctly did).
Other option is trying to limp and hope for some callers to see a flop in a multiway pot.

utg raising with middle pairs it just asking for trouble. too many behind you to act bad position after the flop. Limp and release if need be

What stage of the tournament are you in and do you use a HUD at all?
