I hear it so much... people complaining about this site or that site being rigged because of rediculous cards winning....etc.....
I'm sure that people like me who play online for hours every day play a lot more hands than someone who is only playing at a brick and mortar casino, especially since multi-tabling is possible online.
Because of this I think we see many more sick outcomes than we would see otherwise.
So this makes a site look rigged to some players who don't have perspective on the amount of hands they are playing.

.... I should have also said, that doesn't mean it never happens. Most of us know about the Cereus Poker Network's "superuser" scandal.

You're right, but I was reading in a poker book that our brains are programmed to recognize patterns even when they don't exist. It also causes superstitions like always playing a certain crappy hand because it's been "lucky" for a player. I see it as the sign of a player that doesn't want to look at the holes in their own game. So I ignore the bitching and focus on the fact they are probably the kind of player I want to be playing against.

I dislike it when people consistently blame a site being rigged as a reason for losing, as that's rarely the case...

I'll just drop this here ... Confirmation bias - Wiki
"...People display this bias when they gather or remember information selectively ... The effect is stronger for emotionally charged issues..."

But that's exactly the cause. It probly takes about a year of live poker to see the same amount of hands as one month of online. Put it this way, every possible bad beat has happened in live at some point. Every card in the deck has contributed to a one-outer in live poker too. If the card is still in the deck, it can happen. And players HAVE tracked millions of hands and found no discrepancies. These sites aren't rigged and it's a proven fact.
