I have felt like this 4ever. I don't play it personally, especially to big pre flop raises.
if u hit top pair, is a ten really a good kicker?
and if you hit the ten... whoop dee damn doo.
If your open ended playing heads up, do you call a pot bet?.. even a half pot bet after the flop? for 32% chance?
(this is for tourney play i guess)
i will play j10 on a ring game, in position only

J10 is the only 2 cards that makes all four nut straights. That being said you have to play it very carefully since ur kickers suck.. It can be played but position means everything with this hand> Even 2 pair is scary but its like that with any smaller hand.. Its one of my best friends favorite hand but he wont call more then 2or 3xbb pre and thats if hes big stacked and in good position.. Its also big pocket killers to.

Jack ten suited I will play every once in awhile in a decent position, but otherwise I seem to just be giving my money away.

It can be a "trouble hand" ... wouldn't call it a fishy hand.

There are much worse hands to be considered "fishy". It also depends on many variables, (IE: Cash/ Tournament Structure)

some pros say J 10 is the best starting hand you can play. I dont know tho, it seems to lose for me most of the time
