Session number 7 is in the books and it was decent. I went with a buddy of mine and we played at the local 6-12 oe game. I don't know why but it is usually more difficult to win when he is there. He is a decent player and I wonder if his presence affects the table dynamic or I think I have to prove my game to him. In either case, my win rate does take a hit when he is there. I should avoid playing with him but he is my friend and I like the company. I ended the session up $272 but at one point I was up around $520. My friend was my ride home so I decided to keep playing even though I probably would have left when I hit that number. All and all, it was a good session. I went down early but fought back. I kept patient most of the time. There were maybe 3 or 4 hands through the 7 hour session that i shouldn't have played but overall I was pleased. I am missing out on playing today, Saturday, because I have plans with friends. It sucks because Saturday has been so profitable but every now and then you have to take a break and enjoy life. In my next post I will write about my month and how it went. Spoiler alert, it was pretty good. Good luck and see you on the felt.

I thought I was going to do this tomorrow but it looks like I have some time to kill so here is my month in review.

    January goals:
    Profit $1,000. Completed $1,040
Play 36 hours. Completed 42 hours
Have a 4 day winning streak. Failed 2 days
Have 7 winning days. Failed 5 days
Have no more than a 2 day losing streak Completed. 1 day
Play in one tournament. Completed 1
    Win one freeroll. Completed 1

Overall it was a good month. I was happy to get the volume in and reach the profit goal I had set but I feel like I could have played more. I only played 7 days this month (live) and 1 day online. I had other responsibilities this month that will not be there in February so maybe I can get some more volume in this month. Volume is definitely a component of success in poker. You can be very skilled but if you did not give yourself enough opportunities, you cannot win in the long term. I forget who said it, but success is when preparation meets opportunity. I have made the preparations, (studying, reading, working on my game) I just need to give myself more opportunities. I hope everyone had a great January and that you will have a even better February. Good luck. And see you on the felt.

My February goals are basically the same as my January goals.

    $1,000 in profit
    36 hours of cash
    4 day winning streak
7 winning days in the month
No more than 2 losing days in a row
    Play one live tournament
    Win a freeroll

I am a little nervous about this month because it the shortest month of the year and I barely beat my primary goals last month. I also want to put more volume in with my online game. I think I played 2 days last month. I have to try to build that roll and the only way to do that is by putting in the volume. Hopefully, since my schedule should be less hectic this month I will be able to do it. Like I mentioned previously, I am going to keep playing freerolls until I reach a $10 balance on at least one site. Then I will try to play on that site and build it up so that I can make a few transfers and have at least a $10 balance on all the sites I play. Well, at least that's the plan. I hope it all goes well and I'm in an even better position come March. Good luck to all of you and see you on the felt.

    Online session update

Played a couple freerolls on bovada, carbon, and black chip poker and it went so so. Went deep in a couple of them but only one final table/cash. I finished 7th on a bovada freeroll for $1.40. It is not much but it is a step in the right direction. My next poker session will be a cash game session Thursday night. Hopefully February will be a breakout month. Good luck and see you on the felt.

Session number 8 is in the books and it was bad. I won $122 but I played horrifically. I played too passive, I played too many hands, and I just played poorly. I know I should feel good about a winning session but it was luck not skill. If I play like that every night, I will be broke by month's end. I need to work on being the tight aggressive player I know I should be. My only solace was that it was a profitable night. I am heading back tonight for another session and another opportunity to play better poker. Hopefully, it will be profitable and I will play my best. Good luck to all of you and see you on the felt.

Session number 9 is in the books and it was bad. Although I played better than the previous session, it was a losing one. I lost $400 on the session. It shouldn't have been that bad for several reasons. First, I couldn't connect with a flop to save my life. When I did connect, it was second best. Those two were out of my control. However, I broke two of my cash game rules. I played for longer than 6 hours and after 3 losing half hours/dealer changes, I did not walk away. I got what was coming to me. Had I left after the three losing half hours, I would have lost a little less than $200. Still a loss but every dollar counts. If I come up $200 short of my profit goal, it will be because of this lack of discipline. Moreover, oe is a game of discipline. The most in control player is usually the winner. This is something I must really work hard on. Hopefully, I can get my act together and start moving in the right direction again. Until then, good luck and see you on the felt.

Session number 10 is over and it was a mixed bag. I was up initially but then it fell apart. I played really well but I missed a lot of draws and didn't win a pot for almost two hours. I wound up losing $256. What really sucks is that this was my first losing streak of the year. Every time I have lost I have followed it up with a win. But that's poker sometimes. There is a lot of variance to this game. Sometimes you can go weeks without losing, then you go weeks without winning. I'm always reminded of Vince Lombardi when things go bad. I love his quotes and I find them to be a great a motivational tool. The one that sticks with me the most is, "it's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get back up." The last two sessions have not been good but that doesn't mean this is the beginning of the end. It's a small roadbump and I fully expect to turn it around; if not today then in the future. A positive outlook can be almost as important as running well. So with that said, I wish you all the best and positivity and luck and see you on the felt.
