Chip Shuffling

I am one that does it, but at the same time doesn't like the noise factor as well.

Just a random thought; why do we chip shuffle? I have become addicted to shuffling chips, even do it at home let alone at a table. Looked online but can't find a straight answer, anyone know why?

Just something to do, while there is nothing to do.

Its probably some sort of subconcious addiction to keep your hands from idle. like ex smokers who turn to eating food allot more or always chewing gum

I haven't learned how to do it because everyone else knows how. I only touch my chips when I am placing a bet
