Usually ends up backfiring on me. Like you said though steveo depends on how many are in and position.

i check raise bluff alot more than i do with a hand... because you will usually make more betting out with your hand than you will with the check raise.

it depends on your style of play- in the right spots this can be useful- and you should do it sometimes as a bluff with certain boards-
