Netflix Instant has a lot of hidden gems in it actually. Depending on your genre preferences there may be some worth watching. Here is a couple off the top of my head...
Horror: Grave Encounters (found footage style but effective), Rare Exports (unique to say the least, it's about Evil Santa), The Shrine (surprised me)

Another short series I watched on Netflix, "Survivors" which is a kinda quirky BBC production that only made it one season. It's about the survivors of a massive plague that hits the world and kills virtually everybody.
Also a lot of people tell me "The Wire" was a really good show. I watched the first season, but could not get into the second.

Also there is a lot of good Documentaries. Political, Science and Nature, Biographical, etc.
Couple GREAT ones: The Corporation, No End in Sight, Zeitgeist, If a Tree Falls, Winnebago ManBeliefs are the eyelids of the mind
