I liked the movie and was surprised that that much time had passed!! I'm also a huge Tolkien fan and can't wait for the next one !!!

If you have it in your head that you are sitting with no break for 3 hours, than it is not that long of a movie. Was a enjoyable watch, only part i didn't like was the ending and knowing i have to wait a year and 2 years for the next 2 parts. But i do like the way they so far keep it close to the book.

yep the movie is too long. it is just one book versus the three for the lord of the ring. the birds should have just dropped them off at the base of the mountain lol

I liked it but did think it could have been shorter. That's Peter Jackson for you.

Yea, part I wasn't really too long for me, but if it is 9+ hours total for all three, which is the pace they are on, the series will be too much.

It's a good length for all the back stories they're putting into it. If they just went strictly by the book, would only be a 2 hour movie, but they're adding a lot to make it into 3 separate ones.
