CBS can's The Defenders

I can't understand why CBS would cancel The Defenders. It was a great show and they should have given it a new time slot.

ABC cancelled No Ordinary Family, V, Scoundrels, and The Gates. It seems lots of good shows are getting canned, I dont know how they get their ratings information.
