Ive gotten AA close to 500 times since I've been grinding 4nl. That is over 100k hands since the beginning of November. Playing AA postflop can be tricky. You have to be careful not to commit yourself with the ultimate top pair top kicker. Play it the same way you would top pair top kicker vs drawing hands or a lower pair etc. The idea with AA is to do everything you can to get the money all in pre. Start by putting in the raise, and hope others follow suit with 3betting and 4bettng galore. Here are a few looks into how I played AA postflop. These examples show when i went for pot control, when i played for stacks, and when I folded.

Villian here is a competent reg. I have seen him play big hands on draw boards and he is not one to slowplay. He fires out pot on a very wet boad J 10 9 hh. I expect him to have straights, two pairs and trips here so often. I could peel off a turn but I decide to give up the hand right here. The pot is only .30 I only have .12 invested and I have no idea where I am at because he just called in the BB. 78, QK, 10J, 109, J9s, JJ, 1010, 99 are all in the villians range. My best bet is to be up verse a combo draw like a pair and flush draw or a pair and straight draw and even those hands im only 60% favorite in. I fold and find a better spot even though I am in position.

Here is another AA where I put in my standard raise. Button calls and BB calls and the flop falls 6 7 8 r. BB leads out for pot. BB range here is 45, 56, 67, 78, 86s, 89, 910 and sometimes 66, 77, 88 although i dont expect him to be betting sets. He either has a combo draw or a made hand. Theres no flush draw so he must have some type of made hand. My guess is he has something like bottom two pair. He fires out pot. I toss it instead of trying to flat and re-evaluate where I am at on the turn.

Here is an AA where I 3bet AA to .36 preflop and the BB calls. I have no history with the villian. The flop comes 9 10 J hh. In my opinion this is a board that smacks the villians range. I expect him to have 99, 1010, JJ so much here where he flatted a 3bet oop pre. I also think 910, 10J are in his range. This board is so wet. If he has a combo draw he isnt going to fold, and if he has a set he is check raising. I check behind on the flop for pot control. Turn is an atrocious Q. which I check. River comes a 2. I end up checking down and he scoops the pot with Q10. I am okay with this. Theoretically I should charge him to draw but with a pair and open end he is not folding and since his range includes so many made hands as well I am ok checking down and not getting involved in a big pot.

Here is an AA where I am oop. Villian is playing all sorts of hands at 36/14. The flop falls 9 9 10 r. I do not expect the villian to have a 9 very often. Combos of 9 he might have are 910o, 910s, 89o, 89s, 9js, 97s, 96s, A9s, A9o. Since flop is a rainbow there is only one combo of 910s he could have and the other combos of 9 are less likely. I think by the turn when I fire pot he would be happy to click back for a min raise if he did have the 9 and then I could re-evaluate it by then. I expect to see 10Js, 10J, A10s, A10o, K10s, K10o here a bunch as well as hands like JQ and 78. By betting pot on two barrels I feel like I am taking away his odds to draw on a pair board. I dont think he can fold any overpair if he does have JJ or QQ and slowplayed it. I feel really comfortable throwing 3 large barrels here and bulding a pot. The backdoor flush does get there but I am willing to pay that off if he does have it. I fire three huge barrels and get paid off by 108s.

Villian here is 25/3. When he comes in for a range I know he has 88+ AQ+ because he is only raising 3% of his hands. I 3bet him .12 to .40 hopping to start a raising war. He flats OOP. I narrow his range to 1010, JJ, QQ, AK and perhaps AQs because I am not sure how bad he is. Flop comes 6 9 9 hh. I have the Ah so I can take away AKhh and AQhh from his range. If he has an overpair he is going to have a hard time folding. Board is very safe and is good for me to barrel. I fire .50, .90 which sets up a perfect pot for a river shove 2.20 and he calls me down with QQ.

Here is an AA where the board is 9 4 Q dd. This is a wet board that presents a few draws. I bet half pot on the flop and the turn in position. While this is a little low, it does take away his odds to call a flush draw (8 outs 16% chance on each street). He has 5:1 odds to hit but I make him pay 3:1. There is a good argument for betting 2/3 to pot size bets here. But if I do this I commit myself to call on the river and therefore give him implied odds even though I am taking away his direct pot odds. The diamond peels the river and he makes a large weird bet that is almost all in but not quite. I dont think he is getting fancy I think he wants to get paid. I think he has a flush so often here. Or he is a bad player value betting another made hand that has AA crushed. I fold my AA confidently here.

This is a hand vs allen from PO. I 3bet AA and he flats oop. Board falls J 10 K cc. This is a dangerous flop. The only hand I am in great shape vs that flats pre is AK. 10J, 1010, JJ, QQ, KK, AQs, AQo are all in the villians range. I check back in position for pot control. Even though there is a flush draw I dont expect him to have suited connectors too often here because I 3bet big and he is OOP. turn is a blank. He could be getting tricky and trying to trap me so once again I check back turn on a blank. I know I am losing value vs drawing hands. But i cant see him flatting with JQ, KQ too often out of position and these are the most likely drawing hands. I suspect he has 88 or 99 by the turn or something that really missed like 56s-78s. River comes Ac. Completing the straight and the flush draw. Again he checks. Even though i have trip aces there is no need to bet for value. He is almost never calling and if he is/or if he check raises I am beat.

Here is an example of AA where there is a flush draw on the board but having the A of that suit helps determine the right play to make. In a limped pot, a whale 45/10 min raises the button. I decide to play no funny games and bump it up to .50 to get the pretenders out. I think this narrows his range to 99+ AK even though he is a whale. Flop comes J 5 3 ss and I have the As. I bet .80 which is effectively making him play for stacks with 2.25 behind. He flats and the turn comes the 3s. I am not so worried about AKss AQss getting there because I have the As. And I don't think he would play many other suited hands for 50 cents. Maybe QKs because he is a huge whale. Regardless with the paired turn I have 11 outs if he does have the flush and I am almost always good here vs another over pair. I push him in for the rest of his stack on turn and hold vs 1010.
