Ok, here is just a story from when I played a real game at a casino. It was a tournament. I was watching the players and how they bet. It became clear to me that if you only bet up a little bit, that these players would call just to see the flop.
So my turn comes around. I was last to bet preflop. There were 3 players ahead of me that simply limped in. Now I always make it a point to not look at my cards until I've seen what everyone else has done. That way based on how everyone else bet, I knew what hand I'd stay in with, fold, or raise it up.
I looked down at 2 kings. Knowing the chance of anyone having a better preflop hand than me, obviously the AA, I knew I probably had the best preflop hand.
I also knew that if I didn't raise it up good, someone might pay to see it cheap and get lucky. So this was the first round. Blinds weren't that big. But with 3 people in, I decided to see who had a good hand. So I basically raised it up to where for the others to call, it would eat away at half their stacks. .....One person called. So I figured, to throw in half their stack, they had something.
So the flop came. J, 8, 2. If he had an A and any other card, I still had him beat. Only thing I feared was him having pocket J's, 8's, or 2's. But if he did, he more than likely, if he was a good player, would have raised preflop. But he didn't.
So I took him all in. He called. And what did he have? What did he have preflop that he called my raise of half his stack?? J 8 OFFSUIT. I looked at him and said, "You've got to be kidding me. You called half your stack preflop with that? And the dealer bailed you out"
Just goes to show, nothing you can do about poor donkey play and them getting lucky. I made the right play. He didn't. The cards just bailed his rear end out.
