Bad Beat at the final table!

What should I have done to play this better or should I just chalk this one up as luck for the other guy..

Nah its not luck you see, these days you gotta be a fu---- psychic to compete, a sorcerer, or an alien from outer space. Among a few other things, like cheaters and what not. You "MAY" be able to make minimum wage multitabling micro stakes, but that's it.

He raises 4bb preflop and the guy calls from early position with 7-8, then calls all-in post-flop with a weak pair and weak kicker.
I don't think this is a situation for pot control. If an A had come out on the flop, then maybe slow down a bit to see where you are, but I think it was the right set of plays, and just idiocy + luck that won out.

Sad thing is its just amazing how often terrible play like that gets rewarded, no reason for him to call preflop let alone with a bs pair and no kicker for 70k more, you sure this wasnt merge?? sounds like typical merge or house player who knew what was coming

You played it well and he got lucky. Since the 78 had chips, I guess he felt like playing hand that wasn't AK or AQ.

Thank you for the insight. I feel it was just luck and the guy had the stack to play it. If he would of lost he still would of had plenty of chips to play with. Poker is Poker and bad beats are part of the game.

I don't call this bad luck I call this not being able to beat STUPID. anyone with any common sense would know you have an over pair there and would have folded but some people are too dumb. I keep finding them too.
