Maybe have the chatroom "unlock" when there are more than say 50 members online and close it when there are less than 40 again (to avoid the constant opening and closing when it goes from 50-49 and so on)?

I think that separate channels sound like a good idea, but I wouldn't want new members to feel alienated. Also, I wouldn't want us mods to neglect helping any newcomers.

Good point, Topjimmy. I didn't feel great about the idea. I was getting at basically having one room where you here "password" all the time or "can somebody give me..." and one room where you didn't. Figured at "peak" times there may be some demand for it.

You do have a point about the mods though.

Idea: There should be some sort of board where you can put up major tourny's you are in. Example: On the front page (or anywhere really) there is a list of tourny's such as the Daily Dollar or other popular tourney's where you can click on that tourney (or tourney id) and indicate that you are participating. This would make it way easier for others to railbird their friends on this site and would potentially stave of the question "hey <xxx>, are you playing right now??"
