A little off topic but... you should check out some pubpoker sites and try and get some live tournaments going... even some casinos... for free advertising on your site or something along those lines

Interesting idea, but I hope PO will be still nearly the same as it is now.

I kind of like how Po is now. There isn't a shitload of people but there is still a decent amount of players that are good to make good pokers.

There are definitely a lot of factors to consider, with quite a few good points mentioned.
My first concern is Zab not being in full control of PO anymore. Honestly Zab, you're very hands on. You seemed to have built this site from scratch and are the fearless leader that constantly works to improve this site. I don't like idea of anyone else influencing PO. I think a true merger is a horrible idea. However, an affiliation could be a very cool thing. Instead of a merger, a partnership where each site remains independent but somehow benefit each other. Honestly, this is the only site I'm active in, so I don't know much about the rest.
I think another good point that someone else mentioned, is that right now poker players can outgrow this site. It might be worth looking into different ways to improve this site to cater to a wider array of poker players. I think the BR boosting is one of the great things added that can do that. I know Zab has also mentioned having members write poker articles, which I think would add to the learning side of things. Another idea would be to cater to larger stakes players. Maybe offer a 2000 pt buyin tourney once a month. Or have private games with a cash buy-in that will have different promotions associated with it.
Good luck with whatever you decide Zab, but please don't hand PO over to someone else!!

I wanted to start a new thread but I don't have permission in this area. I was planning on doing this as a suggestion but it applies to this topic.
In my opinion the best way to make PokerOwned huge is to increase the size of the freeroll payouts.
Being from California we have the SuperLotto, MegaMillions, and we just got PowerBall. Any jackpot prize will make you a millionaire. However, people that almost never play start buying tickets when the prize gets into the 100's of millions. There just seems to be a threshold that gets people excited.
To me this is the same with the freerolls. I am guessing many others found PokerOwned through one of the clients while trying to play a freeroll. PokerOwned wasn't the only freeroll but they where frequent and on Carbon they where worth more than almost all the others.
In this very thread people mention a merger with some of the other forums. What a surprise they are the forums with the bigger dollar freerolls.
So how many people would become interested if there was one big daily $250, weekly $500, and monthly $1000 guaranteed freerolls. Those are just arbitrary numbers but you get the idea. The dollar amounts would be the best advertising. The other part of my thinking was about the life cycle of a PokerOwned member. If my bankroll keeps growing, maybe in 6 months I won't be playing the freerolls here anymore. Not that I don't love them. It just won't be worth my time. However, if there where higher dollar amounts available then my guess is you will have a lower attrition rate.
So how can you have higher dollar freerolls without going broke?
Regretfully I don't know the mechanics of the Carbon Private tournament system. I sent them an email asking a few questions but who knows when they will get back to me. So Zab please educate me if I make an assumption that won't work.
I am unsure how long in advance you need to set up the freeroll and put the money in place. I think that for bigger weekly and monthly freerolls you can implement a system that will allow you to set them up without losing your shirt.
Let everyone know that at the end of the week or month the site is having a 500 pt, 1000 pt, the "sky is the limit" cost freeroll. The prize pool is determined by how many people enter. Have a webpage that allows an escrow process that takes a buy in from the players points and shows the accumulating prize pool. Players can remove their points if they change their mind up to a day or two before the tournament. This is dependent on how long in advance you need to set these up at Carbon.
People will get their special tickets for this tournament once that window before the tournament closes. At this point if people want to still buy in and you have already established a dollar amount with Carbon you can have some of the new buy ins go to house profit and some goes to seeding next weeks or months prize pool.
In regards to a higher buy in daily tournament. You could probably run a poll to figure out what is the best time for the majority of people. This way when you are attracting newer members you get a time for optimal traffic. If you want to protect your investment so you aren't overlaying money, I think in the beginning many of us would be willing to buy into a tournament days in advance. Then all additional buy ins that happen after you sent money to carbon just go to the following daily tournament. You can probably figure out a better way than I am coming up with.
For those that don't have the points for these higher buy in tournaments. Perhaps the PokerOwned client can be set up to run satellites.
I figure if you start running these that people will notice. Visitors to the site can see a banner advertising the regular daily tourneys $10 to $50, plus the daily $250, weekly $500 and the monthly $1000 minimum. Start earning points now for your shot at the money. Once people start spending time here and see Speedway, Leader Board, and Grinder Challenge they will be hooked.
The amounts don't have to be set in stone. I could envision a ticker in the corner with the current dollar amount the weekly and monthly tournament is going to be.Last edited by deedbr; 06-27-2013 at 02:31 PM.
