I am interested to see the different theories folks have when it comes to any freeroll play. I have entered a few of the freerolls offered in Hero (usually the smaller entries), and for the most part I see people shoving all in, in the beginning stages. What is the general consensus as to how to play these. Thanks for any input.
Some people just dont care and shove any 2 cards in an effort to get a big stack early. I think the best strategy is to weather the early storm of the people who shove all in and only play premiums. Once you get deeper in the freeroll and those kind of people calm down it becomes more about poker and thats when u should open up ur play a bit more.
There two school of thought here, like was mentioned weather the storm with postion and strong hands or chip up early with a double up. Shoving early you take a chance with possible getting a few callers. Later into the tournament you might get HU with a strong hand. Playing multi-way pots early can leave you wishing you would have folded.
I prefer to sit back and let the gamblers gamble, then play the poker players in the game we know and save myself from turning in my bingo card early.
find a style that suits u and stick to it try to avoid bluffing cuz in a fr u will get called regardless and u will lose course sometimes there is nothing u can do even with monsters u can and will still get beaten
patience is a good trait to have in the fr, let the manics go at it, wait til you have a good solid hand to play or if you can see the flop for cheap, play suited connectors or small pairs and hope for a set..just a few thoughts, gl in the fr here and hero
I agree %100 that bluffing in freerolls can be dangerous, especially in the early stages.
All those shovers usually end up losing all their chips sooner then later. If you can make it past the first break there are usually better players at that point and making it itm shouldn't be a problem.
Yep definitely be patient if u wanna win or else u gonna go bust
definitely try and make it to the first break - you get better players who r left and bigger stacks which people will try and hold onto
If i was you i would strcitly play premium hands, and play very aggressive when you get them... all you can do is hope your hand holds.... thats poker :)
play basic poker only god cards no funny stuff only way
i finally won a ticket in one of these freerolls. i played tight, only getting involved with premium hands and also played position. as someone mentioned before basically all you can do is play good cards and hope they hold. but to be honest you are going to see some crazy stuff and expect bad beats as a norm.
also bluff very sparingly. people will call with bottom pair on a 4 suited board and possible straights.
to win one of these you have to be very lucky and run extremely well. patience is paramount unless you want to be lag which works for some people. either way - good luck.

its a game u have to be lucky and skilled
have to say imo, skill has little to with it. freeroll is more about luck then anything else. you can't make advanced plays because people don't know how to fold pre or post-flop.Quote:

Im thinking that for now on I will take any freeroll money and try the cash tables. I used to do more tournaments but that hasnt been working out to good..lol
I agree with Prawney, just dont rush, w8 the game to go deeper and they will calm down...

My advice is in the early phase of the Freeroll play only premium starting hands. :)

sit and wait untill the most the all in people are gone then start playing ok hands for blinds

most tournaments, freerolls included seem to have "stages" where donkey play becomes most rampant right at the beginning because people are trying to get ahead then it dies down in the second hour for abit, then either after third break OR near to bubble (between 10-50 people depending on tourney size) play will get very aggressive because large stacks will pick on small stacks to get them out then once bubbles hit play will die down until near FT then once on ft play can go either way

freerolls are too boring for me id rather just deposit money and build a roll..........
i guess everything is told...btw try to avoid going all- in with numerous players. 2-3 maybe but thats about it...too lol usually wait for the bb's to check around the flop, and let the software do everything else...
I usually fold almost everything early in the tournament. I'll fold AK or 99 without even thinking about it because no matter what, I have almost nothing dominated and people WILL gamble. If you happen to get AA early, great, but otherwise wait until gamblers eliminate each other. Being short against these fields is easy, so patience is a virtue. Remember, unlike regulars tournament only a fraction of people place, but they also fall like ants. Just wait to open up until there is actually something to play for.
Don't limp unless you're will to commit your ENTIRE stack (AKA just be the aggressor).
it's funny to see a chorme star around freerolls...lol but yeh...frustratement is thy number 1 thing what comes lol
