Mine has always been to "survive till you at least make the money, then start taking more aggressive chances". With the exception of the occasional bad beat, I'll leave the table winning decent money 80% of the time.

Oh yes for sure. Survive until the money, play tight etc. I mean, what's more important than at least getting your money back.
The issue for me is getting a decent PP early on, and someone puts me to the test
Its true. I play very tight before the money and then agressive but some time Ilose with big hands.
See as an aggresive SNG player like me, I ALWAYS take advantage of people like you who try and wait til In The Money. I will steal tons of blinds from players just trying to move up the ladder.
i agree make a few moves early so as to make a presence then play tight watch others at the table and then you can pick on certain players mantaining ur status then when itm hits make ur move u always have to keep in mind that folding may be your best option let others battle a few wars to get ya closer to itm
I just try to sit tight and learn everyones game at least till 2 people are eliminated. Start playing aggressilvly when 5 people are left.
stay tight in the beginning in sitngos then get agressive when blinds go up
sit and goes are a thinking persons game, its best not to go all-in early unless you are sure about your two cards that they will outlast whoever moves in on the action. Keep in mind that most sngs pay only the top 3 or 2 players so its a waiting game until your chip stack is where you can take more chances. Good luck !!!
I like to play tight until I reach the money.
get the chip lead early and bully the low stakes.
I hate sit n go online tournys I'm to impatient and get bored end up wasting my buyins... I love live tourneys tho I'll sit all day it's much more social.. I have lost at least 3-5 hundred giving up until the new rush sng tournaments those keep me aware I recently cashed the 33$ 12.5 guarantee in second for 4.6k and blew it all screwin around in 200$ single tables you should check out my shark scope graph goes down down down WAY up then back down 2k up 1k back down screw em only games worth my time anymore online are cash games I own people in 1/2 rush so hard it's a joke seems like 2/4 is full of super rich kids that take notes on players that act broke to steel blinds I was surprised to see the crap players ...
Either way my suggestion to you for sng is fold more hands pay attention to players betting and watch last hands if you fold so you can get more intel on your opponents it will help you out when your in the money ya 6th is nice in a mtt but first pays usually more then double :)
im sure everybody has there own way to play sng but i have found that playing a little loose and playing position will be more profitable.play the player not the cards.too tight and you will miss out on some simple steals.
personally, I like to play extremely tight till the bubble busted. When I say tight, I mean I even get rid of <A10o . sometimes i would get rid of AJo if im under the gun. Yes, ppl might disagree with my strategy and my result aint that pretty. I am thinking of testing some bully play at the bubble to gain more stacks. However, my past experience told me that I often get called when i pretent to be a bully!! lol... still.. im gonna test different play style. Would it work? oh well.. i will keep you guys posted.
Play tight in the early stages let the donks waste their buyin, hopefully you pick up a hand during that time and it's you that sits pretty with their chips.
In the middle stages it's crucial, as a mistake = bustout, so play careful but not scared if you think you have the goods ship it in.
Late stages is different for everyone me personally I aim for the win so when there is 4 people left in a 9 man I bully the stack below me so if i'm 2nd in chips I raise the person 3rd in chips blinds and try and make a read and reraise him when I think he is weak. I do this because I feel that the person in 3rd feels he has more to lose than the person in 4th or 1st.
Obviously poker is not just black and white but with a basic approach like this you can't steer too far wrong.
I try to survive, but will play a few hands early on and throughout too try and keep an early chip advantage that way i can play within my means while people are trying to play aggressive
i play a lot of ways,i keep it mixed up and trap .
i dont get in a hurry. playing poistion helps me.
be patient dont see a lot of flops,
and if the flop dont help me fold. this has worked me.
Tight in the beginning, then more agressive till the end.
I like to be aggressive all the way if the cards are flying my way, but if not I play tight till they are my way. But if its a small amount of people you have to play all the way. you cant just sit back. Thats my out look.
thanks for the advice Playboy, I will let you know if it does me any good.
MY STRATERGY IN SIT AND GO IS TO GET AN EARLY JUMP START.After that then play aggressive tight until i make the money.when in the money play selective hands and play very aggressive but mainly push.
don't have a favorite or lucky poker hand, they ae just lucky..solid poker starting hand selection is where to minimise your losses and maximise your wins..don't be afraid to
From the responses I've read it seems the general consensus is tight early play and late aggressive play for sit n go's.
As I stated earlier that seems to work for me also. Unless I run into a bunch of crap, then I'll take some chances early on.
My name is Judok. I play mostly on Absolute Poker. I try not to play pocket pairs until Im in the money. Thank you very much.
I play as tight as i can. Playing Pocket pairs and premium Hands agressive but not too much preflop Action without AA or KK.
In early Hands i try to win the little pots and build a Stack.
Play premium hands aggressively and steal hands on positions
do not, i repeat do not play the first hand of a sit and go unless you have AA, KK, or AK. the amount of people that push AL on the first hand is incredible. if you have agood hand, take advantage of it but if not, dont waste your money limping in
Build a stack and be a bully, or sit back and play tight waiting for the the double up, I f the cards aren't lucky for you early, be patient they will come.
see hands cheap double up quick as poss and try roll it out till top 3 (usually pay out)
allin or fold on the fulltilt Super turbos, anyone elsellike those?
Just wait til your hand hits and make sure to read the board and your opponents along with your cards. Do all that and you will do good and go far!
The middle stages of a sit and go are a crucial time of play, as blinds are now putting pressure on players. Also, it is important to become aggressive at this point, as you want to build a decent stack for the late stages........
most important part of sit and go would be the late stages. This usually occurs about 40 minutes into the sit n go. By now blinds will be placing huge pressure on everyone but the highest stacks. The fact that it is shorthanded, and that the blinds are huge, dictate the new style of play you must use. Plus normally top 3-5 get paid so u want to be conservative not to bubble :(
When you reach the final in the tournament there are many unique situations you may face. The first, and ever present problem, is that someone has to get out before the players reach the money positions. This changes everyone's play............so being aggresive as a mid-big stack pushing little stacks out of hands is primary.....
I would always like to make the money, but some times you have to take a chance to better your chips or you be be sitting small stack to a bunch od big stack and they will force you out
Oh yes for sure. Survive until the money, play tight etc. I mean, what's more important than at least getting your money back. And then winning.
Everybody recommends to play tight in the early stages, Then become more aggressive around the bubble. So if the majority of people are playing this way. Think of ways to exploit their strategy instead of copying it.
read "super system" from doyle brunson, best book
depends i think if its a double or nothing sitn go too. where 5 outta 10 players will cash,, or just a reg one where only top 3 outta 10 might cash, for d iff amounts of money too.
Dont play around too much early on. If you bluff, and take down the pot, you win a few BB. If you bluff, and lose it, you'll lose a lot more than you stand to win. So just sit tight early on. But later on, once the loose donks have busted out, then it's time to get tricky (But still play well). Take notice of how your opponents play and if you sense weakness, bluff at the pot (But dont bluff too much because if you get called you dont want to have lost out on much, so a few times the min bet should be enough).
Well, that the whole idea of playing , not to let the other players to have any insight to what you may be doing, in Sng it is very important to remain deceptive and to last until the posted places are reached or even if not reached to place in a position that if another one is played it will increase the odds of doing better ! Hope that helps and Happy New Year............
