Overlay Central on Merge

Since their update, like 90% of their tournaments seem to have A LOT of overlay, especially the satellite events. How can they afford/sustain this?

For example, I won a $60 coupon in a $1 r/a w/ 3 $60 coupons guaranteed and there was like $132 overlay and like 9 runners or something, like what? This was at like 5:00 am. There is no way Merge expected that guarantee to be met.

Do they want overlay in their sats for some reason? Are they trying to bring lower stakes players up to big events for those guarantees?

What do you guys think?

No clue, but generally a bad sign (see Lock)... Lock still has huge overlays and see where they are now lol... hopefully overlay will at least increase traffic

its summin to keep an eye on for sure but i wouldnt be too worried yet...the tourney schedules have only just changed

Well, obvious;y this schedule has just been rolled out. Both players and the site will adjust over the next week or so. In addition, $15 of that overlay is shaved off by it being the rake in the mtts the coupon will be used in.Merge is in no way sweating this. They actually surpassed the 150k guarantee last week, which has given them the ability to do away with the 50 seats FR. No1 ever talks about that.... that was 10k in mtt tickets, that was given away every week. This site has 10 million dollars of guaranteed mtt prizepools this month. They are solidifying their position in the USA market, as the best around, and it isn't even close. Coming off of the PM series, they no doubt attracted even more players, and some were no doubt ROW players. Merge is really doing a top notch job, and I think they are easily going to make a ton of money, while also providing the best USA poker site around.

I was coming to generally write this exact post.

Merge is the best US option currently and it is not even close

The way they keep changing things it's important to keep an eye on this. And since there are not many choices for US players right now it will have to do.

Great post, I was noticing the same thing. The overlays seem to be dropping a bit with people getting used to the schedule, but some of the overlays are still pretty juicy. I was actually going to set my alarm to get up and hop in some early action where the overlays were sic in the am tourneys. The coupon tourneys are where I see some huge value, 140$ overlay on one this morning. Bad hours at work for me this week, but I will definitely scope out some value this weekend and next week if the overlays stay the same.

seems like everyone has the general opinion! i dont see carbon having any problems!! they make plenty!! everyone will figure out the new schedule soon!!

their online amount of people has also dropped since last year - so it looks fishy - but then they hold those checks

I think thats why they did away with all the freerolls in anticipation for having to cover the overlays that might happen

those freerolls were garbage to start out with.. but carbon has always been a great software to play.. hopefully the overlays dont hurt them to much

Out of all the available sites left carbon was my favorite. I hope this doesn't put them under with the new gaurantees/overlays.

Everyone has been complaining about the new structure of the tourneys but they do have a ton of overlay like you say!

i guess no one but me noticed that they did away with the rebuy and made every tourney a re-entry. what that does is generate rake for every time you enter and re-enter the game so merge is making more off of the rake in every tourney.

Not a lot of traffic on merge lately though. They took away a lot of the under $1. tourneys to be able to play and build with a small bankroll and they took away the freerolls. Hope it all comes back soon.

might as well try in get on the good side of these overlays and take advantage of everyone possible. im willing to guarentee this will be changed as quickly as the new schedule came out

well from what ive seen there are no overlays in the tourneys ive been playing...with most of the tourneys i have played in the last couple of days doubling in vale from the gtds there really is nothing to worry about

^^^^Haven't seen an overlay the last couple of days, players have definitely caught up to the curve and adjusted their schedules. I also don't miss the freerolls as much as I thought I would. except for when I want to donk around in an Omaha tourney just to mix it up some.

Carbon will cont. to be strong I like the new tourney schedule but don't like they took steps away I would own them! The regularly freerolls always donked out to long

One thing that I did notice if you look at 1/2 and 2/4 dollar stakes hu cash games on merge there is 1 person seated at amost every table. Its not just 1 person trying to be able to multi table. So what, all sharks waiting for fish?

I think they are just fishing for small stakes players. The sharks are still making money, and the tournaments can now draw in more low stakes cash players. They will change it all in another month anyway. They always do.

Overlay that bad can't be good for the bottom line. I guess they make it up with a few setup hands and high rake...

While I don't believe they would use corrupted software, I do not frequent merge often. And when I do, I usually find myself disgusted by the time I leave. Which typically isn't long after I arrived.
