Lost ?170k Due To Empty Battery

ohh this is one insane story on stars

The Finnish poker pro Ville Wahlbeck posted a blog post (Folding the winner) last week in which he revealed that his fellow countryman and friend Sami "LarsLuzak" Kelopuro (on the right) once lost a huge pot (about ?170k according to a Swedish news site) with the nuts because his wireless mouse ran out of battery.

"One of the cruelest accidental folds must belong to my friend Sami "LarsLuzak" Kelopuro. He was playing online in a highstakes heads-up no-limit game. He had nuts on the river, and his opponent went all-in. If you need to know, the pot was about the same value as a small apartment in Finland.

So there was Sami, licking his lips in front of his desktop and about to click "call." Until he noticed his mouse was not moving. He was playing with a cordless mouse and it had just ran out of batteries.

Sami started running around the house to find new batteries while the time clock ticked away in the table and the warning sounds started to beep. In the end Sami could only watch helplessly how his winning hand was folded in front of his eyes.

Lesson learned, once again. After hearing Sami's story, I ditched my brand new cordless laser mouse and got reunited with my old black Logitech. It has a nice two meter long cable running from its nose."

lol oh dear id cry or hit something, thankfully i have a stock of batteries next to the pc for my mouse and xbox controllers lol

This would suck to lose money because your battery died on your mouse. I probaly would of slammed the mouse on the ground. I learned something from this post keep a extra set of batteries next to me.

How about buy a mouse that doesn't use batteries. Oh my God how old school is that.

I have heard similar stories involving Tom Dwan. I have heard that he has disconnected while flying, and lost over that amount.

I would have taking the batteries out, switched the order and put them back in. This will give you at least 30 seconds of battery power.

That just sucks, this is why everything of mine is wired. I enver want to be in that postirion.

i hate the wireless mouse always dies at the worst time

I've gotten killed by a couple network timeouts...but then again, I've also gotten saved on a couple occasions when I would have been sucked out on or w/e.

i've been in similar situations and shitty as it is, it really isn't that big of a deal. a player should be able to recover and exceed a minor inconvenience, regardless of the stakes and circumstances.

I have a story kinda like that. I was on an army base and had to but a wifi card cause the base had firewalled all the poker sites. I came in 2nd in a PS 11 rebuy the night before for a great cash. So here I am the very next night in another 2700 + field 265 left I am in 45th place. Then all of a sudden my wifi connection stops working. I found out the next day it was faulty software for the wifi card, but it cost me huge money. I ended up blinding out for around 275.00. I was trying to go BTB final tables in the same event. Needless to say I was super pissed.

Use a keyboard is only advice here. Or make sure you have batteries or mouse with a wire before the start of such a high-staked game. Silly situation

I can identify with that. I was playing on stars in '09 on a laptop. I had just gotten a wifi-card and the 2nd or 3rd day I was using it I was deep in a 11 rebuy, 55k Gtd. I believe it started at 22:30, anyway the software in the new wifi card I had gotten crapped out and I could not re-establish internet connection with about 240 players left. I was in the top ten and ended up blinding out in the 50's I think. I won a couple hundred bucks, but I was pissed. I called my provider and explained their software sucked and to fix the problem. Always a lesson to be learned someone I guess.

Yeah that really sucks but ya know with internet this could have happened without running out of juice. He could have lagged out or got disco'd. With internet many things can and will happen from time to time, we dont think about it much but anything can happen at any time online.

I play on my lap top,, therefore I have a touch pad to fallback on if my mouse dies.

I have lost many pots with a winning hand due to lost connections, some due to my internet connection, others I feel where the sites fault. I will not mention any names but one site in particular is getting a rep for kicking winning hands against their "bots". Luckily it isn't any of the sites PokerOwned is affiliated with. My mouse would be in pieces and probly many other things within reach if I lost 170K over something that silly.

Almost as sad as when you see people who can't spell with one. LMAO no disrepect just a little humor =)
