I was thinking about trying to build a BR at limit poker. I've played Limit for over 4 years anywhere from $2/$4 to $10/$20. My question is is it possible to build a BR if I start at $2/$4?

I'm not really sure what you are trying to learn here. If you feel you are experienced and can be profitable, then of course you can build a BR starting at any level, if you have enough of a starting stake. For instance, if you start with only $50 stake and try to build from $2/$4, that would be unwise, because you would be playing too cautiously, I suspect.
it is very difficult to build up a BR with limit poker. the rake kills your profit unless you get into a huge pot. but as stated already if you have $50 you should play in the .10/.25 or lower. my general rule is to play with at least 100BB.
Hows your bankroll? Is it building? Think u can answer that one yourself my friend gl
Of course it's possible. As long as you practice good brm you can build a br at any level.
yea limit poker sucks! Im too used to no limit!!
I'll second what Herbs916 said: Start small and work your way up as your bankroll grows. Good luck!
all you have to do is identigy your goals and go for it. fixed limit poker is probably not the best way to build a bankroll but gl!
Yeah, but with online you have to play it as if its a higher live. 2/4 online is like 6/12 live as far as money goes. lots of capping pre flop, etc, but it can be done, quite easily with ABC
on line you have to play the math. you will be betting into the nuts a lot more. tuff way to make a living.
limit hold em is all about extracting value lots of times u r betting where u wouldnt in nl cuz u can call a rz in LH not nl
Yes its a different game with ALOT more chasing.. but just cause you think it sucks doesnt mean it does LOL Yes you can build a bank roll pretty easy really but like someone else said you cant put on 50 and try to build on 2/4 tables, not enough roll for the variance that limit brings. It can be done tho so good luck on the felt!!
limit poker is the worst!! u get so many fish! its very hard to win!! i hate it!!!!!!!!!!!1
i find limit to be more difficult to make a profit with. It is very hard to steal a pot without being able to throw enough in to scare someone off. also, they call it no foldem holdem for a reason. more people stay in the hand and catch a lucky river. on a nl table that same person to catch a lucky river with a crap hand would have already folded
its hard just to many donks that play rags hoping for flop or river good luck
2/4 is pretty damn fishy with a bunch of donks/tourists that don't care about the game. I would suggest at least finding a 3/6 game instead. I'm assuming you're talking about live poker. Whether you can build a BR depends on your goals, because in my experience a good day at the limit table is making half your BI, with a great day doubling your buy in. That's not a whole lot in the poker world, but it's enough for recreational player like me.
limit poker sucks... too many players stay in for the turn and river... and you get sucked out alot more often.... takes away from my strategy... I hate limit poker.. live or online
too hard to create n' image
I play live but I wanted to start with $200. I took my last BR I built and used it toward my family and now I'm trying to grind it out again. $2/$4 is the lowest stakes where I play.
TY everyone for your input all of it is greatly appreciated, headed to the casino now I'll be sure to update soon. Happy New Year
limit is a very very very safe way to build a micro roll ov a dolar...................
limit live poker is not too great because of the rake and you gotta tip the dealer once and a while. I personally do not like tipping dealers because they always put down a card i do not like on the board and force to wait it out
Limit will definitely be slower for building BR than NL - limit tourneys can be fun and give off the big payouts although hard to come by.
limit poker is a game for people that want luck to be the primary factor of the action instead of skill.... and some donkeys enjoy a game of luck.... at Limit Holdem'... more players stay in all the way to the River, and then you get sucked out more than it seems you should... honestly... I can't stand limit poker and try to avoid playing it... ever !
of course it is. just takes patience and probably time over anything else
This is further from the truth. Limit there is skill to be a long term winner. However, the margins are very thin. The variance is also very high. Especially at the lower limits. The variance will be higher than in no limit games. A bankroll of $200 at $2-$4 is not very much. If you run good you can possibly do it.
The other night i went to a casino late at night and the only table was playing 5 card double draw 10$ bet limit. never played 5 card for money before. it was fun
weird never have heard of that game before. So you're just playing against the dealer right not other players?
Being from MA, the closest casinos to me are in NH - if you would want to call them that. $4/$4 limit holdem and Omaha H/L are the biggest games they have (by law) and some $160 buy in tournaments with a very taxed prize pool (by law). But its way better than nothing at all. CT casinos are an additional 90 minutes away so regular playing there is not an option for me. Most people try these games out at some point and leave in disgust back to NL- but you can beat these games. The strategy is very different from NL which is why people give up when they raise preflop with AA, get 7 callers to the river and end up with the 4th best hand.
Simple correction - have at least 5 buy-ins. Never raise preflop and limp in with anything coordinated - every hand is a drawing hand when there's more than 3 people in the pot preflop. There will rarely be situations where a preflop raise will accomplish anything. If you flop big or a big draw - bet big. Unimproved pocket pairs are very ugly in these games. Plus, if you never raise nobody will see your Aces full coming when you triple up off them on the river. You will frequently have people call you when you have the nuts in these games, so make 'em count and get as much of everyone's money as you can.
If you can get past the boredom of the slow stakes and play, then it is a much better game for the experienced player, especially tournaments
If you do limit poker, I would recommend pot limit just so you can still have some decent pot sizes when you want it to be.
low limit games will drain you the rake. So I don't play lower than 4-8. We dont have Pot limit at the casinos where I live.
I started out playing micro limit. The variance is less but the ROI is SLOW going...Cash NL will build your bankroll quicker, but with higher variance. a 100bb bankroll is best, but you can build it with less if you are patient.
I fricken hate playing limit poker its such a drag. Theres no excitement in limit.
limit poker sucks... when you have the nuts it really sucks... also you get sucked out more on the river
Online limit poker is a good way to fine tune your "grind-it-out" game, which is never a bad thing.
