How do you have the patience to play the 5,000+ player tournaments?

:confused: There are so many tournies with small buy-ins and HUGE payouts because they are 5,000, 10,000, 35,000 players...but how do you keep your patience and dicipline long enough to get in the money? I play the 7,500 player freerolls on fulltilt with $150 prize pool and I have never cashed in one of the hundreds I've played in. I know that I am guilty of not taking freerolls as seriously as I do buy-in tournies, but even when I am devoted to the tourney, I can't seem to make it very far. Any strategies or tips would be appreciated! :confused:

play 45 or 90 man sit n goes they have a decent payout with not as much players, I don't take freerolls seriously either, you need to hit the cards to win a freeroll because the people on them don't care. I mean you could go all in and say in chat I have KK and they call with A7o because they have 3 outs its stupid I tend not to waste my time on the freerolls anymore but yeah maybe multi table sit n goes are the way forward for you.

The freerolls on Full Tilt with 7k and 10k people aren't really that hard.

You just have to play well because people are donking out most of the time.

If you played well enough, there would probably only be around 900 players after the first hour.

fulltiltironman has a point the first hour either ur sitting in the table with donks or everyone who singed up for the tourney forgot about it so u end up playing 2 to 3 handed with the rest of the players sitting out..once u get passed these players its the donk part..i can say ive actually taking first place in one of these.. i got very lucky and to have finished the way i did most of the time i finish top 40 but that day i went on a good run towards the end..its all about picking ur spots.. gl

If you can be patient EARLY in those large freerolls, its a donkfest. You can literally pick off players that are AFK and those that just dont care.

When I play in 5000+ players games I literally double down once and walk away from my computer waiting for probably half the the field to be left...then I start playing again....But no matter what I hardly ever take these games seriously....most of the time I'll just wait for another game!

I love the tournaments with a lot of people. I just have fun playing so it is really easy for me to stay patient and not get bored.

If you don't consistently have discipline and patience at the tournament games, you're not going to be a winning player

Even thought bigger tournaments got over 5k players like Sunday Warmup & Sunday Million in PokerStars, it's not really that difficult to be patience and play for a long time.
Well at least for me.
Not every players call with the best hands, some play with 37 suited and so on.
Just be careful and play as you usually do to win a tournament :)

Those freerolls in Full Tilt Poker take 5+ hours but you will get used of it.

Freeroll is the most difficult tournament to win but it's FREE

I love playing big tournaments! I feel that it is exciting to try to win the entire thing. I have won freeroll tourneys with 9000 players in the them and have only wished that it was for more money.. I feel the the strategy is to not to rush yourself and wait for good hands but to sometimes play hands that you may not normally play with in case you catch something, thats if the blinds arent too big yet and also if you have a decent size stack.

It's better to wait for hands and you can never tilt. You have to keep a read on your opponents at all time though.

You fold like 50 hands 'till u have AA, KK then got a bad beat with 2,7 off then u will know what is tilt :D
Tilt happens for everyone even with the Pros, try this search "Phil Hellmut blows up", and u can find some very good examples there =))

i think its great playing big tournaments thats whats its all about

I love playing huge tornys, I have placed in first in some of the cash freerolls on full tilt as well. I like to play with playchips or at low stake ring games, having a second minor game helps me out a lot in long tournaments.

The best recipe for do it well are these thinks:
Play just the strong hands, make some pause and take it easy.
The BI isnt so big or it is free, so you cant loose. Play your best and if you feel tiredness yourself make a pause for 10-20 mins.

I do not like playing 5000+ tournaments, because there are alot of donks in it and they will call you with almost every hand.
In my opinion winning a freeroll is like a lottery.

what really sucks is when u ARE patient, wait almost an hour 2 get a playable hand, then watch your a-k get knocked off by a hand like j-3 suited. it seems like donks are constantly being rewarded 4 playing any 2 cards, while tight players seem 2 get punished 4 their hand selections. i used 2 get so pissed about people going all in on the 1st hand w/ any 2 cards, but when i check on the winner of that hand later, near the end of the tourney, he's damn near a chip leader. then, i watch him play & see him STILL going all in w/ any 2 cards, & beating hands that are MUCH bigger favs 2 win. when i try that, tho, it doesn't work 4 me. lol!

what should you do if theres a very big stacks jerk at your table and all in everyhand .... you wait, wait, wait til you have the AA and call all-in then boom the jerk got 2, 7 off and here come the flop 2 7 2 =)).

I like to break freerolls up into sections. For example say I'm playing the 7500 man 150.00 fr. My first goal is to get to 10k. That will probably take 2 or 3 breaks depending on how tite I play. Once I'm at 10k my goal is 20k. From 20k I'm playing premium hands only and raising big pre, staying away from small stacks which will not effectively increase the size of my stack. I say you stick to premium hands folding anything under and including kj for the rest of the tourney. Switch your style up of course don't play too tite, it is only a freeroll! You get to 20k in any freeroll you should atleast cash! GL

Iv came close to the money in the 7500 freerolls on tilt a few times but never won any thing. if you play lose the big cards get you tight and the donks take me down. I like to play them but i do not look to improve my game in them. There is just to much luck involved.

yeah small buyin are like freerolls these days.. way to many people

I have been lucky enough to win a few 5000+ freerolls.All you have to do is double up a few times to make money.For example in a field of 8000 if you double up you are in effect halving the field so therefore 1 double up = 4000 2=2000 3=1000 4=500 5=250 6=125 7=63 8= 32 9=16 10= final table.In effect you only have to double your starting stack 6 times and you will make money.It is not difficult if you play a lot of large MTT.I make money most nights i play from freerolls.If you have a good aggresive game you will make money stages but you need to be aggresive.

tip! that i has helped me limp in alot of hands first 3 levels then tighten up try that then play only big hands don't push all in with ur ace king see flops instead try to avoid racing as much as you can! and don't committe yourself with one hand! if you play tight aggressive you should do alright! i have won alot of freerolls with alot of people before but i have also played thousands of them!

in the 7500 person tournies on full tilt i have made it in the money in 36th place. it was pretty sweet it was rush freeroll and i had fun i didnt pay attention really that much which made me do better which doesnt make sense lol

yeah i ahet playing with million of people i never win a freeroll

5,000 + plyrs ..... depends on your buget...

Its tough i've played them and made it deep several times but is always a little crazzy....

must have patience to have certain amount of chips that allow you to wait for good hands the whole tournament after the hour mark becomes much easier, with patience comes, I say from experience

just like omaha & 7 card stud r different than hold 'em, so is freeroll poker compared 2 money games. u gotta play them like 2 completely different games. if u play a lot of freerolls, it can seriously mess up ur money game, unless u r very careful 2 keep the 2 completely separate.

i would play 5,000+plyers...as long its 10$ buy in +...not 1 dollar...

i usually play 4 to 8 tournaments at once then you aRE PLAYING A LITTLE MORE Ooften it works for me
