All cash freerolls have a value to you. If the Freeroll offers $100 and there are 100 players includeing yourself the value to you is 1/100th or $1. If the same $100 Freeroll has 1,000 players includeing yourself the value to you is then1/1,000th or 10 cents.:cool:

If it was a cash tournament and 100 players put 1 dollar in the pot would be $100. The value that u have invested would be 1 dollar. likewise if the casino offered $100 to 100 players; the value to each would be $1.

Yeah, great way to explain it, the examples above show what you would have had to put out of your own pocket had the freeroll not been offered and it was a normal prize pool. So, conversely, you can see what little value is offered when it is $50 and 2000 people are entered (2 1/2 cents).

This is simple math, however there are many additional factors when it comes to a PO freeroll. First off, it's technically not a freeroll because you have to have points to enter. How any one player chooses to get those points includes time and sometimes money. People who say a PO "freeroll" is only a freeroll are way off base. There was a cost involved in them getting into the tournament, whether it be time or money or both. If your time has zero value, then you have a problem. If you paid anything to earn the points or flat out purchased the points then it's no longer a freeroll at all. Add to that the time it takes to actually play the "freeroll" and that is an additional cost, even if you consider your time to be of no value. People who play poorly, or stupid, or donkey play, and then say it's "only a freeroll" are very, very stupid. You have to have a very low self value to actually believe that.Quote:

this is something every1 should already know..hence why i would never purchase or trade points. take lock, i once won 4 times and 1 2nd in a week b4. i spent 360 pts that week for $28. that is no way my average but with the points but i just did the math.
no matter the room, my points per dollar avg is about 155.7 HONESTLY assuming ive been here for 90 days and play MOst tournys on all days im able to play granted various variables of missing registration and just not playing, (i feel this is not correct BUT accurate, meaning i think ive spent a few less thousand points so i will post that as well)
so a day average at appx 865 points a day x 90 days=77850pts/$500(includes bovada freerolls winnings not counted on here)=155.7 points per dollar. honestly when i joined i grinded like 9 of the 10 freerolls a day but now about 6-7 last month.
reality 865 x 80 = 69200/500=138.4
that being said id like to see others projected earnings per dollar. thanks
someone once told me gambling is entertainment for them like anything else you pay for when investing your time. so i guess if some1 would rather play a tourny than go out and watch a movie or dinner or whatever. so its not that their time is worth nothing.

you may have a point but in my true opinion most people don't care about their time invested and have wrecked numerous games of mine pushing at me pre and busting my aces with stuff like 7/4, 10/2, so on...it cant be compared to a cash game unless comparing it to something like a dollar tourney.... The more your willing to buy in for the better the play and the easier it is to stay ahead of EV.

Well what you are explaining is the EV of the tournament... Unfortunately if you are a weak player and theres 100 players ($100 freeroll), you can only expect to get part of the $1 in the long run on the average.
Spot on here. And when you come across those who are playing freerolls like this, these are the players to take advantage of. Dont avoid the terrible players just because you dont want them to suck out on you. It seems like obvious advice but alot of players do this.Quote:

I'm not sure of your math OP but my logic is as follows. I've started buying points instead of earning them so they carry a set value of 250 points per dollar. I'm placing frequently enough to win more than I'm buying the points at so it's worth it economically, more about playing the game though.
to most they have no value I value them as a tourney to play and work on my game most see them as an all in fest praying to get lucky
hane to look at the # of entries to # of payout in my opinion also.
But there are different values of freerolls spiritually to each different player. Spiritually if I am trying to build a BR then the freerolls have unlimite value to each one I enter.
while this is true, you must factor in the # of people sitting out, and how good the other players are... for a pro it would be worth more than $1 because their EV/ROI (even though buyin is 0) is better
