well its the 5th best starting hand for a reason but ya have to willing to ditch it after the flop if ya whiff..
I dont think its overvalued. Maybe after the flop when ppl dont let go of it. Buts its still a strong hand that has so many non pair hands dominated.
I always play ak like aces.
Here is David Sklansky take on Big Slick. Not sure I embrace this but it does have some merit.

you know what they say, "don't get married to AK". that's the truth too. if it doesn't hit you gotta let it go.
Well when i get ak i always go allin preflop if im shotystack, but yea what Matusow is saying also true..
tricky hand, AK is a damn set up. just go all-in with it and pray like hell you dont get snapped off by pocket 2's
u either go all-in preflop or try to pretend ur playing high pair like j's and above..
Nice Allin hand when shortstacked, but I try not to overplay it and to let it go when not hitting the board.
while i play AK im not opposed to folding after the flop if i miss with it. never will you see me fire three bullets with the hand if i miss
Many people over-value AK post-flop. If you miss the flop, don't be stubborn. Re-evaluate, and be prepared to let it go. There's a reason that another name for this hand is "Walking back to Texas."
Prefer " Anna Kournikova ", AK is gorgeous, but she never wins!

lol so true AK is way over rated.
i play AK very agressive because is a strong hand
playing ak is a talent. I prefer to exploit ak postflop
you may have seen gus hansen call today with j10 suited against ak. I have done that
I called a guy off with qj suited against his ak off once in a $2k pot. I made it $300 to go and he shoved. I was 40% and putting up 35% of the money.
lol this is hard... to depends why is on the table ;)
not me its the best starting after any pocket pair..............
Yes we do put too much hope on AK. Players treat AK like it's not supposed to lose. There are 13 other hands that beat it.
Yes, we put too much value on it post flop. It does have a lot of value pre-flop, but post flop if it doesn't at least pair there's a good chance it's behind and needs to be folded.
aboslutely, numerous times ppl will commit with ak and put it all on the line.. its crazy but you see it all the time.
i am agree with u,it is just a drawing hand

It is one of the best starting hands without a dought. But The AK your holding can quickly go to pot when the flop comes out.
ak is an awesome hand u should play all in everytime
Like they say gotta ditch it after the flop unless you hit.Or jam pre.....
i love ak i wont dem every hand....
i love my ak end i love to lose with dem
In most situations if there is a raise in front of me I will just flat with AK. This is for 2 reasons. For one it is kind of like a trap if you hit the flop, and secondly if you miss the flop and you just flatted preflop you wont feel committed and can fold easily.
Of course if you are short stacked, say 10-15 BB's, I would 3 bet shove any raise in front of me. It is some what of a steal hand but if you are called you are ahead of alot of non pair hands and in a race with many hands as well. All you can do is hope you're not shoving into AA or KK.
If I am the one to open with AK I will make it 3 BB's, and make a regular post flop continuation bet whether I hit or miss the flop. If they call you can continue the hand from there as you would like.
Well, that's just my take on AK. Good luck!
I'd argue that JJ is not a "high pair" but rather a medium pair.
I for some reason do not fit in the board in recent times, even with such cards as the Ak)
I saw once a guy (a very good dutch guy) he plays the NL100, NL50 and is very succesful.
I saw his pokertracker stats: profit:
AA: $47000
AK: -$3000
Man it was a shock to see that.
I do a small raise, and slow play when hit.
ak is an awesome hand till your opponent shows you the bullets & shuts u down
