I'm starting to find it easier to just play at the cash games as opposed to racing the clock in tournaments or even SnGs. I think the play is more realistic and there's a better chance of making money. i can't count the number of times I've played a solid tournament only to double up my entry if I'm lucky enough to cash. Why not just cash out on my run with no pressure to keep building? Thoughts?
There are cash players and there are tourney players. It depends on what you are good at according to your style and personality.
there is alot more variance in cash games, i mean you can lose more money vrs a turny, you bought in and can only lose the buyin where as in the cash game you can go back into your wallet and lose more

Cash games and tournaments are 2 totally different games all together!
I've heard pro poker players interviewed ,mostly they say cash is like regular income and tourneys are when your trying to make one big lump sum me personally,I would rather have the big check since I already have a job.
It all depends on your BRM and the way you play. In cash games you can grind but you can also loose a lot in one hand. In a tourney, on the other hand, you loose a BI if you get knocked out but if you get ITM you can benefit tremendous payout. You don't have to play MTTs to make a buck. You can play STTs and make small progress while multi-tabling. It's all about your strategy and what your BR allows you to do.Quote:

I was just thinking about this topic. I am leaning more toward cash games for money making potential. Tourneys must have a lot of players for it to seem worthwhile. However, the more players, the lower the chances of being ITM.
cash games are best, although i sometimes take up too much time with sngs and tourneys
I think cash games are the quickest way to build a bankroll. I am more of a tournament player and love the grind. There's just something about knowing that you lasted longer than everyone else and that you won. Of course the juice has to be worth the squeeze but I typically don't mind the SNG and few MTT but cash is definitely a subtle but different beast.
With the advent of the re-entry tourney getting stuck for several buy-ins is not unheard of thus making the overall return of a decent run even smaller. A good ITM at the mid-level MTTs is probably 15-17% with a win percentage of 3 if lucky. It has also made people gamble a little more early on improving the chances of those tight agressive sharks like me to scoop them up. Unless of course I am playing on Merge where my hands never hold up. It is bizarro poker.Quote:

in my opinion, i like tournaments better! easier to manage your bankroll... awesome when you get to the money and final table...cash games are a good way to make or break your bank...gl at the tables
tourneys are the main reason I play poker.... it doesn't matter if you're in a tourney or on a cash table.... it's always nice to win and usually sucks to lose
at the rank I play time is more important than money. I just can't stand sitting for hours only to bubble or get my cash back. maybe if I won more but I would rather play cash.
I enjoy playing tourney and if u can win you will hit a bigger prize then in cash.
not neccesarially bigger prize in tourney if u get a good run in cas, but it lowers amt you lose because you cant just buy back in so you tend to play smarter/tighter in tourneys

I like cash games and tournaments at the same times on tuesdays, on the 3rd week of june in leap years.
Yes cash games are similiar strategy to tourneys only thing is in cash games people are not as quick to call with mediocre hands
I really like the $10 OD tourneys on bcp. The first day i got 8th place. The second day i got 4th. I did have to try a few times a day. It really sucks when you get knocked out after 2nd break but thats how it goes sometimes
I think it depends on the bankroll at the time what makes me play what I do. I love the turbo sit and go's because it fits my style better, of gambling and making people make a decision. I am not a fan of the 1 dollar rebuys because that is just an invitation to donk it off. I love playing .10/.25 omaha that is the game where if you pick your spots can build a huge bankroll..
you play a lot more hands in cash games, so you encounter a lot more situations. what makes it tougher is that if you make one small mistake or miscalculate a range, you stand to lose 1-2 buyins in one hand.
tourneys are fun, but they are high variance. some of the tourney pros can play like 1000s of games without making a good spot in the money. same thing happens in cash games, but with tourneys of 1000+ players it can get real sick.
Well from what I noticed if you just want to have fun for a long time, play a tournament. Yeah you could win big, but hey if you lose you might have only payed a $20 buy in for 4 or 5 hours of fun. Cash games obviously make you more money faster, but on the same note you could lose all your money faster too. It really depends if you're trying to play for a long time or want that money fast.
I do best when I focus... doesn't matter if it's a tourney or cash game.... patience and paying attention are the keys to both
