I am a storyteller, a wise ass, a goof ball and most of all a man with a vivid imagination. Check, check, check and?. Check. Well you can read what I have to write and come to your own conclusions. All I can ask is that you read.
If I were to have written in 2010 that the gold standard of online poker sites, Full Tilt, was a year away from screwing the fine poker playing people of America out of a half a billion dollars, (Billion with a B!!!) With a big assist going to the Federal government you all would have said, "Neil keep puffin on that peace pipe of yours."
Well when the hammer came crashing down on that fateful Friday in 2011 that is exactly what happened. It turned out that the dicks running Full Tilt were playing their own game, unbeknownst to the rest of the world, and it was called "Spending other people's money."
In the time since then it's safe to say that the online poker landscape in this country has become let's just say murky. If Full Tilt was, actually being run by charlatans right under everyone's nose when online poker wasn't relegated to the dark shadows God only knows what kind of criminal must be running the US friendly sites of today. At least that has been my thought process ever since Black Friday and one that will not change until this country pulls its collective head out of its ass and federally legalizes online poker. Like the rest of the civilized world that we so arrogantly boast of blazing new trails for. It makes my stomach churn every time I think of that scumbag billionaire casino-magnet Sheldon Adelson throwing around the money he made off of the backs gamblers to ensure that online poker never exists. Why? I really cannot, for the life of me, tell you why except for, "that he can."
It used to be, "One person, one vote." Now it's, "One dollar, one vote." And that corpse who won't die, Adelson, has a lot of dollars, unfortunately for American poker players. But back on point.
So I am of the belief that right now there is no real online poker in 47 states. Sure, I can log on and play one of a myriad of sites for "real money." Merge, WPN, Bovada. The only one of those I would even say resides near legitimacy is Bovada and that is because it was formerly Bodog, the place where I blossomed from a total donk into where I reside today, semi-donkdom. Yet, they all reek of criminalism because they take our action and the Feds made it quite clear on Black Friday that such behavior is not acceptable.
Two days from now the WPN will be hosting its much ballyhooed about $1,000,000 GTD. All week long, as many of us know, its software has been spotty...To say the least!!! Constant disconnections, outages lasting hours and a dramatic change in its SnGs and tournaments. No more on demand stuff. Random $250 freerolls all bunched together, no more mico stakes stuff a lot of things that when taken together show me a Poker Network in disarray not one 48 hours away from hosting as itself has proclaimed, "The Biggest US Online Poker Tourney in 3+ Years!!!" Then I read that as it stands now the 1Mil has an overlay of $780,000. Yikes!! That's a lot of buy-ins before now and the end of late registration.
When I put all of it together I am starting to come to one conclusion, this tournament is WPN's big shot at scamming US players who have no recourse because of course we play without remorse, its technically illegal remember. No payouts will be forthcoming. Just buy-ins and bankrolls gone along with the WPN and another sad chapter in the Online Poker History Book will have been written. Good luck players.
