    GG Barney

This is not good for online poker in the US ... he was probably the most vocal supporter in congress.

He might have been the most vocal supporter of our cause but one man wasn't going to legalize online poker. It will take at least another year before the congress will get online poker legalized.

I am pretty sure your talking about the Poker Players Alliance, which is a lobbying organization, and they are always actively pestering politicians (its their job). While their aren't a huge lobbying organization, I am pretty sure they are well funded.

A lot of people think that major brick and mortar casino's are the major backers behind opposition, but this is not entirely true. Poker participation had a major jump during the heyday of Online poker. They began to get major TV converge and a lot of the numbers I have seen, show a lot of traffic created by the popularity created by online poker. Also, a lot of people think that the major casino's will have an inside track to getting licensed if it does become legal in the US. So they stand to profit greatly from it. Their are some casino's against it, but from the feeling I get, a lot of casino's are for it.

As for legalizing it, some major hurdles are being removed. The recent reinterpreting of the Wire Act of 1961 is a major victory. It pretty much says that the prohibited transfer of funds across state lines only applies to betting on Sporting Events and Contests. When the first crackdown came against the online poker community this was a major part of the argument.

I really doubt anything happens before the 2012 elections, but it would be awesome if it did.
