For once i wanna hear some AF smacktalk. I want to hear all the real football fans opinions about why is "soccer" better than "handegg" :D
simple :D i mean how can u call football (i mean american football) when u use ur hands its foot+ball simple as that :D
Because they are real athletes not pussies all armored up in gear. You get hit in real football you feel it. Plus all the running they do ... an american player would pass out
Maybe they should call it killthemanwiththeball :D
i do not agree , i think nFL is the best sport in the world
NO COMMERCIALS.
And I love both, but agree on the whole name thing. And claiming American football is for pussies is just ignorant. I'd take a 50-50 ball with Nemanja Vidic before I go heads with Patrick Willis.
I'd hate to get hit by an NFL lineman running full speed.
I'm not absolutely positive, but I think that soccer is the worst sport on the planet.
Cause they get to scrap if they feel like it.... American football is rigged. Thats why I never watch it. If I join the football pool I will.:D
the nfl is way bettttttteeeerrrrr than kickball
not hatin..
i love all sports but come one.. nfl is amazing
Simple, it's not. It's stupid that they took the name from Soccer but it is better.
Americans want to see points scored. Not a 1-0 game. Booooorrrrrriiiiiinnnnnggggg!
soccer is great!!!
This is just plain ignorant. Most soccer games do NOT end 1-0, maybe you should try watching something other than the World Cup. Teams play the group stage of the WC conservatively because of the format, try watching Champions League or EPL. The excitement in a soccer game comes from the build-up play to create a scoring chance. Professional soccer players are so good that if the final pass into them is on point they will usually score.
I tend to agree.. Not enough scoring, fields are to large and some of the rules are crazy..
Extra Time - We're not going to tell you how much, just that there is extra time!! (What?)
Penalty - There was a penalty called on a US player in the world cup awhile back, what was it for? (Oh they don't have to tell you)
Any sport where there is a "power play" and you can't even tell... OH MY its 18 against 17, THEY ARE ON A POWER PLAY.
And last but not least, 1/2 the players are WALKING 90% of the time.
Go ahead, flame away
The 4th official holds up a board telling you how many minutes are added. The ref can extend that time if a team has a scoring chance or if he feels a team was excessively wasting time while the ball was out of play. The ref doesn't need to say what the penalty is for (like in football) because the fouls only happen around the ball and are obvious to most spectators. And, hyperbole aside, there are only 11 players per side, let's not get carried away. People who complain about soccer being boring should watch the last day of last year's EPL season, it was the most epic comeback in sports history.
Kinda crazy to compare the 2 sports as the only thing in common is the name. Compare the NFL to a rugby league and you have a more realistic comparison, but even there, the differences are huge. NFL is size and speed on an immediate play by play basis with a large squad of specialists being rotated in and out. Rugby is a small squad of all around players in for every down, offense and defense and is supremely a stamina sport, with power and speed occasionally. And just for fun...as a Scot....when we play football, we mostly use our feet.....when we hold world championships, we usually invite some other countries, and when you meet the head of our country you only have to drop to one knee instead of two!! Luv ya Zab!!!
And also one of the most depressing days of my life (life-long United fan) :(
Sort by viewers Superbowl gets watched worldwide by like 150-200 million
Champions league final 300+ million.
The way i look at it people in america dont like football because they suck at it. I know they only suck because its like the 10th most popular sport here but that is the truth.
Look at womens football, Its terrible to watch but football was like the most popular sport in USA when the womens team were on their way to the world cup final.
WRT Zab. If ur talking about extra time its 15 minute a half if the game ends a tie after 90mins. If ur talking about injury time that is added on at the end of every half, then they dont tell u until the very end of the half because the time doesnt stop so the injury time is calculated by how much time was lost for injuries, substitutions and other stoppages. So its impossible to tell u the injury times before that.
Penalties- If u watched the sport and knew the rules then u know why something is a foul. All fouls result in the same thing, a free kick from the spot of the foul or a penalty kick when it happens inside the box. There isnt that many ways to foul so if the ref blows the whistle hes basically telling you the foul is because it was a bad tackle.
Power play - lol, its saying things like that, that give americans a bad name.

Nice one Prawney....I didn\'t bother pointing that one out, but I did wonder where hockey came in.
I cant stand watching the Soccer players roll around on the ground for 10 minutes in pain then they get up like nothing happened
Ties.. WTF
Our team doesn\'t win? BURN THE STADIUM DOWN
I could go on and on
What about how in football you are punished for being bad and relegated to a lower division.
In american footbal if u are the worse team in the league you are rewarded with getting the best new player in the league.
Zab based on all of your complaints I have a strong feeling that you have only watched the World Cup, is this true?
I dont even know why im complainin so much. I prefer NFL to football. I just get tilted with the bad name football gets. It is after all the most popular sport in the world.
You can't lump their bunch-ball leagues in with professionals when forming your opinion, thats absurd. The field needs to be as large as it is because everyone is so damn fast, even the slow guys can burn, its just harder to tell when you watch on TV.
Im tempted to root for the Yankees now.
lmfao, this thread turned out better than I expected.
I am such a hater

LOL what you just said is laughable. I am personally a recreational soccer player and have never played football. There is WAY LESS contact in soccer than there is in football. I DONT CARE if the players are ARMORED UP in gear there still hitting each other! One its not even close the number of concussions or serious injuries in football compared to soccer (wonder why!?) And second half the contact in soccer is called by the referree and any time you do attempt contact the other player dives drawing the damn foul! AGAIN i love soccer but you gotta respect football at least in the CONTACT category, your far off here!
-and btw soccer players are def in better running shape/ have more stamina than football players but only bc there sport requires it, much like football requires you to be bigger. (i know there are some small football players, but lets be honest in general you need to be bigger to play!)
sport sucks......=PP

Zab, you are demonstrating that I was absolutely correct when I asked if your only professional soccer viewing experience is the World Cup. FIFA, UEFA, and the English FA have made serious efforts to cut down on the diving over the last 5 years and it has significantly improved the games. Players like Luis Suarez are blasted by the British media for being divers. Diving is known for being a problem with South American, Spanish, and until recently, Italian players. This is in large part due to their style of play and lack of physical stature.
