2 + 2 Accounts Compromised

I received this email last night, so most of you who are members probably received it as well, but for those who do not check their email regularly and who might be using the same passwords for every site this could be important (I know that sounds like a really stupid thing to do, but I used to)

Dear Two Plus Two Members,

On April 26th at approximately 11:20 AM pacific time, the Two Plus Two Forums were closed as a result of a hacker who has displayed the ability to access e-mail addresses and encrypted passwords. He also indicated the ability to decrypt passwords.

While it is unclear the extent of data to which he gained access, e-mail addresses and passwords on the Two Plus Two forums should be considered compromised. If you have used your 2+2 password on any other site, you are advised to change it.

For your security, we are closing the forums until the breach is patched. Upon reopening the forums you will be forced to change your password ? it is counterproductive to do so now.

We hope to be back up as soon as possible.

That's not worth a damn! I'm not a member there so that's a plus, but I am guilty of using the same passwords for my accounts. I guess I know what I need to do about that :)

Another thing to keep in mind, I used to have good passwords for pokersites, but an incredibly simple one for my email as I figured if someone wants to read my viagra spam have at it, until someone pointed out to me that the email should be the toughest one because if someone cracks that, they can easily click forgot password on the sites and change it to whatever they want and your funds are now gone.
I have corrected that problem :)

Wow they don't even have a splash page the 2+2 server is powered down.

wow talking about bringing down some giants in the poker world, i say its the DOJ themselves..big money trades go on there..i smell conspiracy

Not sure what was to gain with the hacking a forum site. If you can tie e-mails to passwords to pokersites. Guess an encrypted password isn't worth much.

Some of those players are are real high rollers with alot of money in their accounts...

There are high stakes stakers and lots of high stakes trades on 2p2. Basically there are some that can call out big $$$ amounts by name and rep on 2p2 alone. I'm not talking 1000's here. I'm talking 10000's here. So, it's a very big deal. Forums accounts can be very costly.

So there hoping to get enough information from a forum to hack a poker account. Makes sense, you now have an e-mail address then to try hack the poker account. Time for a new password then.

I dont remember what password i used... :(

Never trust anyone people, they can do it all these days.

Pretty cool my bank has been making you change every 3 months and have use special characters, caps & numbers. When I logged in the other day it will text you a pin number for that log in to your e-mail or cell phone. Guess can never be to safe these days when your dealing with e-commerce.

Update for April 27th

Given that this happened in spite of having applied all current security patches from the companies that provide our forum software, we are in the process of employing additional security experts to ensure that we are in compliance with the highest security measures possible.

At this point in time we anticipate forum downtime to be within 4-6 days.

During the forum outage, both the 2+2 Magazine and the 2+2 PokerCast will be available. This includes the release of the next PokerCast episode and the May issue of the magazine. You can also read the 2+2 archives going all the way back to 1997.

Man.. What a total disaster for people who sell shares and stake in the marketplace. Going to be a mess trying to clean all that up. Overall just sucks for anyone who has alot of money going through 2+2 and uses same passwords ect.
