Why do some raise every hand?

it can keep the other players offguard if you have a big flop

I find that aggravating too. It's hard to get a read when people just raise every hand. I say those players don't have enough experience to know what to do with a real hand. You can time these guys with your monsters and clean up.

Part of the strategy. Poker you can raise, fold, call, all in. Alot of different moves you can make. I think some people like to raise every hand to play some sort of crazy/poker game.

Why the odd play of raising every hand? The simple answer is because of the vast difference in each persons poker ability, style and approach. There is a whole gamut of players to from the tightest of tight, to the player who see it as a slot machine, and every hand is another pull. Identify everyone, and play accordingly is all you can do. stop trying to find any rational reasons, most of these players are just into some attention need..they not really considering what they doing....they play, they win or they lose but they dont really care... :)

Sometimes I'll raise every hand. The super aggro style pays off at times depending on who's on the table with you. That's how I play cash games, never limp, always raise.

Some very good players will try this if they can get away with it. If they can establish themselves as table captain, and no one challenges them on this, they can amass a pretty large stack. How successful this style is depends on the opponents. I've found that in live tourneys, higher buy-ins, there will be someone like this, not raise every single hand because it gets raised ahead of them a lot and they just call the raise rather than 3-bet....they have to do this to keep their image as table captain. They try very hard to win the hand after the flop. If they're really good, they can read the other players well enough that when they do lose, they lose a minimal amount.

But if they're in a tournament where it's never raised ahead of them, they probably would raise every single hand....until they start getting played back at...at which point they finally back off a bit.

The ones that do it in the freerolls are usually not very good players and you can often catch them. They don't know when to back off.

Well I actually know some pretty good poker players that play like that. They play aggressively against other players and act kind of like bullies at the table. That strategy usually doesn't work as well on experienced poker players though and most people I know that play like that only try it on inexperienced players.

Boredom and low stakes.
