poker, skill or luck?

for some reason it seems to me like people have lost respect for the game, or maybe its just lack of knowledge of the game? either way i think it takes the fun out of playing poker when people shove or call a raise with some off the wall hands. It makes it hard to add skill to the game, i have heard and i do agree that any two cards can win, i think thats were the luck is all at! most times when you do apply skill the other person wont fold their hand and most times they hit, taking away the fun, and robbing you of any skillful play.. i have seen some people play very loose and it works well for them but thats not me, i have no luck playing loose. so really all you can do is accept it, cuz not like you can get it back.. i think im there, i can accept the donking, we all do it, so why complain..skill will win more times than luck!!

if you are talking about free rolls, well that in itself says it all.

lol yeah free rolls are a giving, what do you really have to lose in a free game? but not just free rolls money buy ins as well..

adjust your gameplay people! having luck is only part of the game.... how many chips that luck gives you is up to your skill!!

you need lots of luck to play at carbon

Its a little of both, it seems like lately everyone has luck except for me and it really getting sick

They don't hit MOST of the time. They his based on the percentage that they have to hit. Yes, people play stupid, and many times they will suck out. That's the name of the game. That's when it comes down to keeping pots small and relying on smallball poker to win.

When I first started playing , I figured it was luck. After playing for a while, I figured it was luck and skill. After Black Friday , it's turned into a big old game of bingo, at least until the final tables.

I think it requires a little bit of both. I think you have to get lucky to win tourneys, but you need to use yer skills to get deep into tourneys.

I say it a little of all combined. The ones that shove preflop with garbage hands and hit that is just all luck no skill or poker involved. Luckboxes and Donkeys. LOL

To deal with these players.. In a skill sense.. Is play real tight.

its a game of skill that has a percentage of luck to keep the donks and average players to come back and make the game interesting. I think playing online has a larger luck/skill ratio than live poker but thats just my opinion. If you play 1 tourney, you can win and be a bad player and vice versa. It takes a large sample to see if you are winning or losing poker player.

I think you hit it there with the "I think playing online has a larger luck/skill ratio than live poker but thats just my opinion" I think alot of skill gets taken away online. It takes skill to read someone half way decent and even harder if you cant see them.. If you play with someone long enough online you can get some tells but not nearly what you can live. So online all you have to go by is betting patterns mainly.

well i guess it could be both, couse if you have bad luck but you have the skill youre gonna keep losing everything!

Yeah, i found just a right place to post my previous problem with stars, and their so called site Integrity. I even regret that in the latest post's i said that stars is the best place to play...No...They all try to brainwash you, and it hasn't got anything to do with luck or skill, well mostly luck, because that's all what you can get..I've had an major argument with their support team...And they still kept saying - repeading the same shit...All the post's or links what they've sended to me from google review had negative comments, about the RNG-

Things I noticed at pokerstars, anybody confirming or denying/explain,
just curious:

1. Probabilities

Losing with 4 of a kind from straight flush.....What is the chance of
that? Wait before you say more read on...

Ok if it happens once a while, but if you keep losing 1 WHOLE night
long.
(not 1 freak time but regular always when you have a high bankroll)

You loose with high hands from a slightly better hand..and cannot win
1 pot for 4 hours (shifting 20 tables) even when you get numerous full
houses,straights, flushes..always losing from slightly higher
flush/str/lo/full...Result is you loose everything..and then with your
last little money you go all-in and you win all subsequent 10
pots..and you have a bankroll again...

2. Prediction
I can predict cards on pocket and they fall,get a good laugh at
predicting hands in the way like: "I have jacks/aces, I bet he has
full Aces/.." and then they have...then laughing my ass off..

3. Flop behaviour
When you have the highest card on flop, you always loose on the river
from a shitty pocket..

Just 3 to name...this only happens at pokerstars...tested this
on the other sites...never on Partypoker,poker paradise, Ultimate bet,
planet poker etc..just to name a few sites I played....


If anybody can explain this saying it's normal I think they also
believe in UFO's...

Luck is how you win hands skill is how you make the most when you win.Of course if after a certain number of hands (5k+) you still find you are losing (money not hands) you need to readjust your play.Maybe start posting some hands and see what the community has to say about it.

Online poker is not rigged and everyone who thinks it is a loosing player. Because if they were winning players they would be loving the site and saying how its the best ever.

its far more skill then luck, if you are lucky you will win some bad beats back but if you have skill you will not make to many of them

It's part skill .part luck but I think it's really depends on what poker site you play .

All online poker sites are the same as far as card dealing. Its all random its just a computer's mind dealing the cards. You have to realize your playing many more hands than in live poker. Plus your bad beats usually aren't by the same player. Plus depending what tourneys you play in you just increase your chance of bad beats cause of horrible play. You have to increase your sample size. 10 tourneys aren't enough. Not even 100. Mass over 100,000 hands. It may not balance out exactly to what the odds say but it will be close.

i think you need this 2 things to win ,, have the skill and have some lucky to ,,, and be patient ,,,, the expert says thats poker is a skillgame ,, but im not agree ,,, any thing can happen

I agree. when first starting to play it is alot of luck.. after playing for awhile game theory becomes a factor and thats when skill is learned.

skill will always win in the longrun thats why u will always see the consistant patient tourny players even in the freerolls consistantly make deep runs i think in the later stages of tourny is where luck is needed but what do i know.cash games as long as u play within ur bankroll skill should always win in the longrun unless u runnin that bad and lose it all in 1 session but if that happens u were probly playin overurhead

Nah I dont think people have lost respect for the game I believe "Random Card Generators" want people to assume they have lost all respect for the game.

It's skill. Even in micro mtts, as you get to the final table, you start to notice the skill. Early on though, there are many donks.

Some people do not have respect for the game and come play without knowing shit, investing and giving bad beats, but these are people we dao profits, we have to thank them every day. Poker is a game of skill, technique and a little luck.

Its both of course. thats the beauty of it.
