The life of the poor US micro player.

Like everyone else, I'm one of those players that constantly thinks of the good ole days before black friday. Well, before BF I had tried out quite a few sites, PS, FT, carbon, cake, bodog, with *gasp* real money deposits, and I decided that Poker Stars was by far the best, and I settled in, and was really starting to make progress on my game when the DOJ swooped in and ruined it all. I still remember how excited I was about the freerolls I had won entries into that I was planning on playing in that weekend. I was even getting close to making my first withdrawal....

Well after BF, my options were limited. I was still able to make deposits on Cake, so even though I don't like Cake, I would play there. And then I stopped being able to deposit there. Then came what seemed to be the final blow to ever playing poker again.... I got a mac last year.

I quickly played through my very small cake bankroll, so I could finally be done with my absolutely horrible HP, and then went to see what my options were for mac software. And those 2 options were Bet Online and Carbon. Bet Online seemed amazing with their freerolls going all the time and they were fairly easy to cash in, but then I started reading the reviews and realized it just wasn't worth my time. Carbon was fun, but playing only their freerolls meant I only had 1-2 chances a day against several thousand people to ever scratch up a bankroll again. That's when things finally started turning around last month.

I was looking at the restricted freerolls and saw all of the PO FRs. Within a couple weeks I managed to cash in a tourney for $8. I finally had a bankroll again!! Then, yesterday, I discovered the Hero skin for merge. $1 SNG freerolls around the clock!! Also, highly beatable to scratch out a small BR. I've already got $1.25 there!! And then came the true light at the end of the tunnel. In my spam folder was an email from Bovada saying they had deposited $50 into my account to play with until Oct. 19th. I was debating on pulling out the ole HP to play with my new money, but decided to do a quick check, and low and behold, Bovada came out with a mac client a couple months ago!!! I'm rich!!! And I can play em all on one laptop!!!!

Cool story. I too remember pokerstars. Best site. Period. Carbon poker should take some advice from pokerstars and add 10 cent 360 player sngs. Those were fun to play.

I had a Bodog account pre BF that I had deposited maybe a total of $200 on. I guess that account got rolled over onto the Bovada name. I'm also guessing that they are trying to build up their player base by luring in old players that have deposited before by sending out this offer. I don't think it was something sent out to everyone, but more of a "please come back!" type bonus.

I love those 10c 360 man SNGs at PS. Do you think Carbon has the traffic to fill them up?? The couple months before BF I was finally starting to apply BRM and built my way up from those, then to the 25c SNGs, and was so excited when I reached the $1! Stupid DOJ, I want my PS back.

They do what bodog did alot, when you don't log in for a while they toss money at you to play through, I stopped playing when they became bovada because every tournament I played it would freeze up and not let me back in, they tossed me $20 in July to play sngs with a week or so to play through, I built it to $50 in a couple days. Now it is just sitting there, lol I gotta get back over there and play.

So I thought I would post an update. My bodog account is back at zero, but I don't like their software, so I'm not too heart broken. My carbon bankroll sunk down to $2, but I just started playing the fun steps and won $1, so it's at $3 now. I've built my hero account up to about $12, and thats the main site I'm playing on now since they have round the clock SNG freerolls. Since carbon and hero are both merge skins, I can only play one at a time, so I'm playing on carbon each day until I'm done with the funsteps for the day and the PO freerolls if I'm playing in them, then I switch back over to hero.

I definitely feel that I have alot of improvement to make as a poker player since 2 out of 3 of my bankrolls basically got wiped out. But I don't think that I'm really that bad. People always come on here and talk about their winnings and how much they've managed to build their bankrolls, and it's almost always positive reports. I figure most people just don't like to admit when they're losing. I hope so, otherwise, I may just be a terrible player!

i didnt know you could have a life as a US micro stakes player. besides the US part, micro to me seems a bit.. small.

Thats an awesome story man. Good luck on cashing out on your free bovada bankroll. that is awesome that they would give you that money. How much of it can you keep?

Wow, that's really pathetic. I don't say this to be mean, but seriously. You need to build a bankroll of $100 before you can start grinding like a confident micro grinder. The payout for Pokerstars freerolls is just $10 and 1st place $3, but I'm still in a much better shape than you. If you lose all $50 Bodog gave you, it's not something to be taken lightly, dude, if you even consider yourself to be a "player". While you mustn't think you're terrible (because that negative connotation is hard to shake and would affect your game later), you must accept that you aint good at all. You can't rate yourself as good or bad or mediocre because you're a noob and the only thing a noob ought to do is to learn and learn. Freerolls aren't really good for learning poker imo. Maybe you want to pay for some micro games. Idk about Merge, but here at Pokerstars people take poker a lot more seriously when they actually paid for it. People come here to bullshit and offer encouraging words, you gotta go to a different forum - 2+2/cardplayer etc and see just really how unacceptable and pathetic your results are.

years ago on pdc i stopped playing there for about two years and then one day i went into account and had $25 - but you know not such thing now

I am in mourning myself for pokerstars. It was by far the best site IMO. I heard betonline is shady too but if you win some $ in the free rolls to play at least you don't have to deal with deposit nightmares. However getting the money out is another story. LOL That was awesome that brovada put $50 in your account. I wish something like that would happen to me. Haha. GL at making that bankroll climb

Yea before "Black Friday" I would play in 8 to 10 forum freerolls some days even more than that ,,, those were the good ole days... won'tever see anything like that again,,,sad for us low rollers.

Honestly, the problem I have with bodog is the blind structure on the micro limit tournaments and SNGs. They didn't have low enough stakes to play cash games with my BR. There was a reason I stopped playing there pre-BF. Whether I suck or not, I'm not a noob, I've been playing for 4 years now. Pokerstars was an excellent training ground for micro stakes with the player traffic they get at the micro levels and the structure of their SNGs. When I was on there I had reached the point of slowly grinding my way up the SNG ladder. Unfortunately, just as I was starting to have some success BF hit.

Too bad you lot your Bovada roll. I cashed out there twice this year, and got $9 back on there for my roll. They paid me in 3 weeks, last withdrawal.

If you play HeroPoker, I hope you play the daily Top 9 pays $11. You heard me right , 9 players each win $11.

I don't earn enough points for $99 daily, but I do play in the triumvirate daily when I can. I also play the hero PLO and amazon SNG FRs. I absolutely love those! I'm not sure what I should I do about cashing out when I get to that point... I live in Missouri, and they don't accept Missouri players, so I signed up using my mom's address in Nevada. Unfortunately, I don't talk to my mom, so I couldn't ask her to forward a check to me. I just don't know how big of a problem that's going to cause down the road.
