Hello!
I'm new in poker and not sure how to play monster-combinations to get the max-value. Can anybody give me an advice? Thank you!
Online or offline?! Cause if you're playing them online, it's seems to still be a 50-50 chance if you get a caller...lol
Raise 3x bb + 1bb for every limper that acted before you to isolate. I rase pot every street after that unless if I am re raised then its all in.
I suck pretty much at bet sizing, if someone has raised before me pf, I just make up a higher number to re raise.
I'm playing online at PS. Thank's Pooffy...gonna try your strategy ;)
I think pooffy has a good point, 3 bb plus 1 bb for every limper. But i have also seen people being UTG and just calling the bb with aces, and waiting for action. this can be risky, but especially in MTT like pokerstars pokerowned, you can get big with that strategy
I see...but what does "limper" mean? :D I'm really new in poker so I'm trying to learn some basics...
You can play Aces however you want. Usually you raise preflop thought to try and weed out the average hands. But be careful as poket A's can be cracked like a egg!!!
there are many ways to play aces - even a few reasons to fold them preflop - but you are too inexperienced for those right now
my theory- unless there is action before you bet - is that you should ALWAYS be raising the same amount with every hand that you are raising with...this way your opponents cant get a read on how strong your hand is - BECAUSE if they know you have aces they will probably fold - I like 3x the big blind. Poofy has a good thought though with people acting before you do - if you get a lot of callers before you act (3 or more) then your raise should be slightly higher to weed out the riff-raff
i however do not buy poofys play on betting automatically every turn or re-raising a raiser - if the flop comes 10,j,q hearts(or something coordinated and suited) and you have two black aces - and two people are betting like mad - you are toast and should fold - far too often people live (and a lot of times die) by aces after the flop - as Kenny says "you got to know when to fold them"
just shove em pre any position. ppl nowadays will put you on AK, and call with their pocket 7's... fckn idiots
The only way to play aces online is by going all in pre flop and odds are that you will still lose. I would rather go all in with 55 than AA
Unfortunetly, this is not good advice. you should not always raise the same preflop. there are reasons to vary your raises based on table dynamics and pot size manipulation. additionally, the "norm" is 4bb + 1 for each limper.
however, sometimes you'll want to open for a lot less or a lot more, as well as vary your preflop re-raise hammering. it is situational, not pure formulaic
It depends on how many people call and what turn you are on betting. If you're early, I'd just call or raise 1x. If you're later in turn and there's a lot of people that are playing, i'd raise 3x+, if there's just one person in it, I'd call and try to get him to raise you. Then on the flop, if a flush draw is available (ie, 2 cards are suited) I'd go all in just in case. The main thing is, just don't scare the money away too early, but make them make a call before their hand is revealed. I'm no pro, but I've misplayed them enough to know that it sucks to rake a small pot off AA
How NOT to play aces:
Watched my friend lose $500 with AA in a huge pot at his bachelor party at the Mohegan Sun Poker Room. He raised preflop out of position, got two callers. On a rainbow flop of 85Q, he CB's. Both stacks go all-in and he calls. other two players flip over 88 and 55, river is a 5 - lucky sob! The guy with 88 got up and stormed out!!
Phil Helmuth says that you should play high pairs 70/30. 3 and 4 betting 70% of the time and flatting 30% of the time. Now, in freerolls I tend to reraise 90-95% of the time because it will cause a lot of people to shove with inferior hands (due to inability to play mid level hands properly).
AA preflop play
[ ] shove
[ ] Open with pot size raise
[X] Fold preflop
Just to clear up the venting in chat when it gets cracked of course
Go all in preflop lol so they dont catch somethin stupid!
Hellmuth is right about this. The main thing is you don't want to play the same hand the same way every time.
This is an age old question in poker but it depends on many dynamics including the players at the table. I have always found that the best approach is to try to control the action and get to a flop with them and then go from there on your decision making.
Good Luck with your adventures in poker.
raise all in preflop.
most of the time you win a little and sometimes you'll win a lot and once in while you'll lose it all.
I always get screwed with aces and kings!! Hate both of them lol

Really? Haha, that guy doesn't know how to play real poker...
All in
BET BIG PRE FLOP ! TRY TO GET ONE OR TWO CALLERS !! take down what you can soon as you can ! take down a small pot or lose a big pot!
but new to poker ? the way you talk dont exactly sound like it bro bro
all in. aces are only good in in a 1v1 you do not want multiple callers. and even still remember its most likely just a pair of aces
WHAT ! you hate AA n KK ? the two best staring hands ? dont get to excited n over play them or actually sounds like you might be under playing them ? i love AA n KK ! why wouldnt you ? but remember it is online n most likely in a freeroll dogg ... lol good luck with these later on ... SCOTT41984
Aces are super tricky. Before the flop, you have to decide limp or bet big, then you take the chance of someone catching the nuts :( I had someone play AA against Pocket Kings yesterday. He played 'em right, slow bet and then big on the turn. Knocked me out :(
doesnt matter if ur playing online someone will probably suck out on u anyways!
aces are great, just play them like every other hand and dont do something you wouldnt do if you didnt have aces
all in pre flop no questions asked haha
i folded aces before. i think the key to play them is by recognizing what your opponent is expecting to do.
gotta know when they're no good. you have to fold them after the flop often.
Well, it's really depending on the situation but never slowplay AA :D
That's really a situational thing. Just one of those things you have to feel for. Table size, players, mtt, sng, or cash... it really varies. I don't think one person can answer. DO PROTECT YOUR HAND!
