Is there any scenario where you would rather fold rather than checking or raising?
I think it could be a useful tactic to raise your opponents pot odds to promote them to bet more aggressively against each other. I haven't thought of it much further than that.
This is obviously not useful at all in cash games but could it be in an MTT around the bubble?

The only time I would fold rather than check is if I am playing multiple tables and I make a mistake. Even if only 1 out of 100 of these situations gets checked down to the river and by some miracle you win it is still more money than folding. In my experience if there is more people in the pot it usually induces the aggressor to make an even bigger bet. So by checking instead of folding you might be increasing the chance of action.
when u r on flush or straight , try to fold because these cards are tempting to raise.
I may fold on the river with no action in front of me if its an MTT near the money and I missed a draw and have no chance of winning a showdown. Reason is the player behind me is more likely to raise knowing he has one less callers to worry about, therefore possibly setting up a showdown between the other players, which may lead to the elimination of one of them.
hey ive done this a few times, rather just not waste the time and move on, knowing damn well youre going to lose the hand
makes no sense to fold when you can check,just check until the next bet then fold.
I'm sure there are more fold scenarios as you approach the bubble in a tournament.

But remember, even if you have to hit 2 specific cards to win, there's always a chance. And if you fold and those cards hit you'll feel like shooting yourself.

never fold a check, that last card could make you or break him if you got the read. never fold a check.
I have seen a lot of people use this approach! i guess they figure no matter what there not gonna get tempted!
i do this all the time if i'm limped into and don't have anything on the flop.
good way to move on faster, knowing u draw dead and cant bluff
its a good way to save yourself from a stupid bluff and just getting outta the hand
I've never done this and the logic behind folding a check seems dumb.
But I have had someone fold a check on him in a Real Life Tournament last month at a Casino and it kind kind of throws a wrench into the read machine for future hands (gives the player a more conservative spin)
dont ever fold... at least see if the river will be free ... i have won when i almost folded for no reason to save time with bullshit cards but on the flip i have saw a rabbited hand that i would have of won that i folded.. pointless in my opinion.. o yea i didnt read the first posting but i am assuming this is what you are referring to lol
If I completely miss, and have reason to believe that the other person is going to try to set me up for a check-raise.. I will fold the hand on the river if it is checked all the way through, also to prevent someone from getting an idea of my range.. If I hit on any street, there is a different story.
I could only consider it if it comes down to showdown and I dont want them to see what I had. But even then, I want them to see that Im playing garbage too lol
If I need to pee and Im in the big blind and miss the flop I will fold instead of check.
There are many times where I will have say...7s, 8s and I pay to see the flop cheaply because I like these cards but the flop comes Ah, Kd, Ad...There I have 0 outs, what's the point in playing any longer and the more players that payed to see the flop, the less likely I'm going to want to bluff.
its a great way to save time and get outta the hand, knowing u cant bluff your way out of it

What sucks is if someone does this and its a Royal Flush type hand. To have one player check just so he can stay and have a showdown and show a RF and have his opp fold would make me sick. So I wont do this if there is a situation of a bad beat or RF. Otherwise, I have folded like this at times. Sometimes you think you have no chance and win anyways though so not a great move.
I did this once because the blinds were about to go up on my bb and I wanted to avoid that lol
That's the best answer I heard yet. Other than that rare occasion I can't really ever see a reason to do it. Yeah I know that feeling when the clock is winding down and you want to scream at the screen for the other people to hurry up. We know you are going to fold, stop trying to save face.Quote:
