How big of a bankroll do I need in order to start playing at the micros and not bust out? I've been playing for a couple of years now so I now what I'm doing. The thing is that this is the first time I start a bankroll from nothing. I play the Carbon Poker freerolls. Will 5 dollars do it?
BRM really doesnt come into it until you hit around the $50 mark...u can see the micro mtts and so should work out that if you have $5 you have enough for four $1 mtss ...thats simple maths :/

yeah its a factor but with $5 ure only option is really to either bink a $5 game or sit n play the GTD tourneys for like $1 or $2 a pop u have options but id go for broke with such lil cash else ull never get anywhereQuote:

For micros a 20.00 deposit is good Carbon has a min of 20.00 deposit for Visa

There are different rules people follow. My personal rule is that I won't buy into anything with more than 5% of my BR. So $5 would be enough for my to play Bumblebee SNGs on Carbon and nothing else. Those have a very high level of variance so I didn't play those much anyways when my BR was so small. I personally include the tournament fee as part of the 5%. So for the .25+.5 tournament I would need $6. There really isn't a very good selection of stuff to play until I could afford $1 entries which meant my BR needed to be $20+. I follow this no matter how small my BR is. I started from freerolls, so that meant the first few weeks were basically FRs only until I had built up enough to play in anything else.

I would stick to either 11cent hyper turbos, or $1.1 double up sngs till you can get that guy up to $20, then maybe doing some $1.1 regular games or turbos. Or even just sticking with double ups for a bit.
$5 isn't enough for cash games. I would argue that you don't really have enough for low stakes cash games until you have like $100 anyway. Unless you like to play fixed limit.
I think you can BR manage with $25. The key is setting a plan AND STICKING TO IT. I'm bad a the second part. Especially when bad beats and stupid plays reign down and I lose the perspective that I'm playing for .02/.05...
The most difficult part of BRM is the M for me. This game teaches you a lot about yourself if you let it.
You could play those bumblebee sngs and the $.60 sngs. Also, I think there are micro stakes mtts with $.50 buy ins. However, the reality is, you're going to commit a big portion of your bankroll when playing.
When Ferguson built his bankroll from nothing on Full Tilt, he started by winning a few dollars after grinding freerolls for a while. He decided that his best chance with that few dollars was to sit down at a cash game. He busted in just a few hands. From there he went back to the freerolls. He did eventually build a very substantial BR from literally nothing. You can google the whole story for more exact details. The point is though that if your starting from zero, you are not going to immediately have proper bankroll management. You will have to use your better judgment and play to your own personal strengths.
I agree it us tough to follow proper bankroll with a small roll. You just have to play the games you're comfortable withand once you build a roll then make sure to follow proper management to ensure you don't go broke. But with the small bankroll you will inevitably have to take shots.
A common rule for good bankroll management is to only risk 10% of your bankroll at a time. I find it hard to use the discipline to follow this, but true nonetheless.
I would play the $1 games on carbon and try and build it up that way. Not sure the cash table would be the way to go. I think the MTT's would be better option with that small BR.
$3 tourneys seem fair and pay enough to justify your time and skills.... I've built in carbon playing those and small stake bounties.....
gottaplay with20%...and just keep grinding...stay within yourlimtis.....and shit will roll!
I built an 8500.00 BR on carbon from 8$ freeroll money that I earned on PO. It can be done. I played sngs to keep my BR going up and played a couple small MTT's. I cashed a couple and went from there still supplementing my BR with sng's but I changed to hyper turbos. The main thing when you have a small roll is to be on your A game. Don't try and roll up if you only kinda feel like playing.
i would say 10 to be safe although you could make 5 work likely
My suggestion is to play $1 sitngos till you have decent bankroll. keep doing freerolls. Do nto try to play cash games until you have $50 plus more likely $80.
Would you recommend just playing cash games?, or are tournaments the way to go for sure?
sng's are the safeest bet, mtt's offer the biggest return on your cash usually especially if they are GTDs but you get ALOT of varience...and cash games are dangerous if you dont know how to walk awayQuote:

What I like to do when starting out small is start with the cash games then once Ive hit 5.50 I go to the 6 handed double up. The go to the 10 double then the 20 double. And so on. Till I hit 2-300 in my BR. Then I can start management from there.

This sums up my problem with BR management. I'm good at everything else with BR management but walking away when I've been beat. The "I'm gonna make it back" mentality creeps in and I don't stand a chance...!
This is has been proven. I have used this strategy for set periods of time to actually build up and eventually withdraw money from poker sites. Its very tough to stick to it but it works if you do. If it wasn't tough then everyone could do it. It requires lots of discipline. Thats the hardest part of bankroll management. Discipline !!!. When your friends say hey jump in this or that or they look like they are having fun playing higher limits ect ect. YOU JUST CAN'T DO IT, if your serious about bankroll management. Remember BEAT THE ODDS AND MAINTAIN DISCIPLINE, NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!! Good Luck and now onto the meat of the topic.
Again this is proven to work and I have used it for set periods of time. In Bankroll management there is no one set way. Its what works per each individual based on what your comfortable with among other variables (play style, type of games). But in general this is one of the best general over all proven to work bankroll management systems and I have successfully used it myself to build up and withdraw money from poker sites.

The good news its even simpler then that. There is a free download called the fergulator. Its a bankroll management calculator that follows these rules. You can google search "fergulator bankroll management calculator" It is free to download. I have used it and never had a problem with it. But its entirely up to you if you want to download it. Use at your own risk. But as I have said I have never had a problem with it at all. Here is what it looks like and what it does:

honestly for carbon u just need 11 cents to turn that into some good bank,
doing it like that might take a while, butt 11 cents is all u need haha

IMO STT's > MTT's > $$ games when it comes to starting from scratch. Once you have a comfortable roll, you should play whatever you're good at.Quote:
