Horribad Pokerowned Players

They're just too funny. This'll be my running thread of ridiculously bad plays by Pokerowned freeroll regs.

First up: Fancygirl1212 - I have no idea what her PO name is.
I think her fold button might be broken, but that's OK, as I've used it to my advantage on more than one occasion. Alas, once in a while she will catch her miracle, which hopefully convinces her that she's playing solid.

So here we go, I've played incredibly loose and somewhat aggressively pre-flop, whereas she is running her standard very loose, very passive game. We both start the hand with about 13-14 BB's. I know she's calling with any Ace, most Kings, every broadway hand, every pair, and likely several suited rag hands as well. The idea is to get her to think I'm bluffing, which works perfectly. I put all but 1/2 of a BB in, she can't help but call herself all-but-in with KTo vs my AKs. As planned, I get the bulk of the chips in as a 75% favorite:

Flop comes 9Q4 with two hearts, we are both committed so the flop all-in is inevitable. She once again takes the passive route, check-calling herself in (obviously can't fold, tho) with K-hi, gutshot straight draw, and backdoor flush draw, meaning she has improved on the flop. She calls it in with air and is a 70% dog.

Pro golfer Greg Norman once stated that the main difference between an amateur and a pro golfer is that the pro recognizes that he is not always going to hit his best shot, so he takes the high-percentage plays. An amateur, conversely, will always remember that ONE time they hit the green from 300 yds out with their 3-wood, and so EVERY time they get 300 out, they pull out that trusty 3-wood. One good shot will keep a duffer paying greens fees all summer. I've heard a similar analogy for surfing, in that getting up and riding ONE wave will keep even the worst surfer trying all summer long, hoping to duplicate that ONE time.

Kudos to Fancygirl1212, may the bright light of luck shine on you often.

Oh..and also, had you read the post, you might have noticed that I LOVE playing against players like this. They've paid me rather well over the years. I have accepted their chips over and over and over.

i totally agree, fancy girl does not have a fold button! too funny! blackhak and i were just laughing about this in bubble chat!! she was at our table! and she donked away over 10k in chips! and thanks for the cudos azreal!!

I used to keep notes on fancygirl, but it just wasn't worth it - it's the same shit every single time she plays.

To be completely honest, I play during the day mostly to let off steam...I'm expecting bad plays and players, and I make several bad plays myself from time to time. Picking on her is probably a bit on the mean side, but cutting others down makes me feel elevated. ;)

That said, yes, she's bad. I was just chatting with another player about this. I generally assume that in most cases each player is playing their best, trying their hardest to win. (I got that from Barry Greenstein). When I played for a living, I never discussed bad beats. I just said, "I got knocked out," and moved on. Used to drive my friends crazy (and of course my backers wanted a bit more info, lol).

SO...fancygirl has some improving to do, but only if she's unhappy with her play. I honestly hope she doesn't improve, but if she wants to there is plenty of room. Until then, I will assume that she is trying her hardest, using what she believes is the best strategy to win. I wish her luck, and I hope she sits at my table often. And I will continue to mock and ridicule bad play in this thread, so I am not compelled to discuss beats elsewhere.

I liked this site so much better 3 years ago when there wasn't so many people. Way more donks on here ruins the freerolls

it don't matter what free roll it is weather its a forum roll or an open roll, you will find donks. that's just a fact of life.

Our donkey VinnieDestino would go on to 3bet all-in the very next hand with his 75bbs and KQo. But he wasn't done! He followed that up the very next hand by open-shoving all 75bbs again with A6o, spiking a 6 to beat the AJo who had "trapped" him, lol.

So I'm shortstacked on the button with less than 20 BBs. Len72959 limps in early position. I raise the pot 3x BB and Len calls.
Flop comes A J 10. I push all in, which equates to less than a pot sized raised, and Len snap calls with a gutshot in Q 8.
Turn comes a harmless 6. Then, like always, our brilliant player is rewarded a 9.

Bravo to the amazing Len for forseeing that his dominated hand (26% chance post flop) would luck out on the river. Please keep the fantastic play up!

I don't know who you are, but I am GREATLY enjoying this series - enough sarcasm without over-the-edge lunacy. Please keep up the good work, you should have daily material.

Im really not mad at donkeys either because my EV says over a long period of time I will make more money than them , So its very simpla and very true while they may win a few hands or even stack thousands of chips there poor stack will eventually plumit to its fatal end and me or some other player who knows how to play will end up with all his chips and go to place ITM while he will be doing more surveys and shit trying to get in a tournament to donk someone else its a vicious cycle but someone has to do it.

when in freerolls you have to get use to getting bad beats all of the time. I just got eliminated with only 5 players to the money with kings beacause the guy pushed pre flop with tens and hit a ten on the river it happens nuthin you can do about it donk will be donks

Don't be confused, it's not a bad beat thread...it's an appreciation thread. An homage to donkeys, if you will.

And for the record, I'm fairly certain that nobody cares about your bad beat(s) nor mine. It doesn't matter how close to the money you are, or how much the buy-in was, or how many tourneys you cashed in yesterday. Irrelevance is irrelevant.

I bet you'd like to think of yourself as a pro, amirite? I have news, bad beats happen just as much - and they sting a little more IMO - in higher buy-in tourneys as well. This disease is not specific to freerolls.

When/if you ever DO become a pro, you will learn that there, in fact, IS something you can do about it. But that's like teaching the monkey how to open his own cage. You get to sort that one out on your own.

LMAO Haversham. I was about to post this correction until I scrolled down in the thread. But on point with your thread, I love Fancy. I have found the optimal way of playing against her and the other ATM's on this site and it pays dividends. In less than 3 weeks of playing (since I took a week off of freeroll poker) they have caused me to stack up and win 4 of these and cash 15. So let them come and let them suck out because sucking out is what keeps them in the game. I love the horrible players because at least they are consistent. The players I hate are the ones that are consistent winners then have those minor leaks in their game that pay them the occasional dividend. Nothing worse than getting sucked out on by A-J after you 3 or 4 bet preflop, or other overplays that I constantly see with these PO players. So, for players like Fancy, may you continue to be my ATM, and for you middle ground players, please watch a strategy video or two then come back once you've learned how to play properly (since you are also normally the ones bitching when your low equity plays lose).

So there's our pre-flop action. I think by now we all understand JBD's game, amirite? No min-raise, no 3x, means he might actually have a hand with his UTG limp. GregorSamsa calls as well, he's loose too, and possibly on to the same thing I am, which is that JBD is ripe for a trap here. And I have the Fancygirl1212 on my left. I look down at 88, a dreaded middle pair. Normally this might be a raise spot, but it's pretty unlikely I'm shaking off either of those limpers, and incredibly unlikely that Fancygirl is EVER folding ANYTHING on the button, so my raise would be pointless in that it would only accomplish building a pot for me to play in an awkward position with a marginal hand. I'm feeling pretty good that if I don't hit a set, I'm gone on the flop. Which comes:

Ok...straight draws & flush draws abound, and of course ChipTool1 lives up to his name and fires out a post-oak donk bet. Amazingly, JBD flats, which tells me he has KKK or air, GregorSamsa calls because he has no clue and what's another 50 chips (part of why they call it the donk bet in the first place). But I'm having no part of this, so I drop a few extra chips in the pot, using one of my time-honored tricks of only using the digits that make up the previous bet, mostly for fun, but also because sometimes an idiot might think I've mistyped my call or something. And of course, to absolutely nobody's surprise, Fancygirl1212 makes what she probably thinks at the time is a great trap-call, because why would she want to protect a 2-pr hand on a board with that texture when she can flat almost half her remaining stack with such a powerhouse?

Nice hand, young lady...VERY well-played.

I'm left with enough chips to shove preflop a few hands later (and triple up thanks to my own running miracles - A8>TT>A7 on a board of 75T...9...J), but the sting lingers long after. The best part is, by the time I'm done typing this I've checked the lobby and she got KO'd but 5 places behind me, passing my chips on to some deserving up-and-comer.

Today's installment highlights the stellar play of someone I'm certain you're familiar with. We can't, however, be sure exactly who it is, since their screenname indicates that it's actually TWO players.

MyriamAndMax is undoubtedly known for a MyriadOfBadness, but this particular play puts him/her on level with Fancygirl.
He/She starts the hand with 5bbs - just over 1000 chips. UTG player is ptbros1972, who also makes a fairly questionable play with his stack, but we'll save him for another time. I was not involved in this hand, but the play was too brilliant for me to pass up.

So...there's our pre-flop action. Ptbros1972, starting the hand with just over 5bbs, decides his best option here is to min-raise from UTG. Obviously, in a game as tight as a PO freeroll, this strategy is sure to work. Except that only two seats over is MyriamAndMax, one of PO's loosest and most passive. With only 5bbs him/herself, she looks down at two cards that compel him/her to call 1/5th his/her stack preflop. Probably setting up some kind of future bluff-calldown. Another caller can't get away, nor can the big blind, who is also critically short-stacked.

The flop drops, showing A♣5♥9♥

An interesting texture, for sure, and with 3 short-stacks in the hand, our Big Blind, italian3140, takes the initiative and finally gets the rest of his li'l pile in. It's unlikely he called with an Ace of any strength, so it's likely he's on some kind of draw. Since ptbros1972 min-raised, we have to assume he likes his hand, and you have to admire this "trap" with only a few blinds remaining. Clearly he was looking for action (which in this game is like looking for tie-dyes at a Grateful Dead show).

There's really only one surprise in there. Italian3140 does indeed have a Q-hi heart draw, and ptbros1972 effectively trapped himself with a hand that should have simply shoved his 5bbs pre-flop, AQ. Our hero, MyriamAndMax, was in a real quandary. He/she has now seen an UTG raise (which he/she called), a 4-way Ace-hi flop with two hearts, a Big Blind shove, followed by that early raiser's shove as well. Naturally, as an 11% favorite in the hand, he/she simply cannot at this point get away from the 86 offsuit. It had so much promise pre-flop as well, after all, since it could make twice as many flushes as either of the other hands.

Well..the turn was a calamity, bringing the 6♥. He/she got it in praying for one of those 3 non-heart 7's, but alas, it wasn't to be.

Normally the protagonist in these stories goes on to win some massive pot, but not this time. We can only hope that MyriamAndMax will continue to show the passive-aggression that it takes to call-call off a stack with 3 outs in the deck. Undoubtedly this play has worked many times in the past, and I'm sure it will work again someday. Maybe we'll even get a chance to analyze it in this thread.

In the second half of today's two-parter, we show off why chasing every single draw is absolutely the key to solid freeroll poker.

We arrive at the final table of the late PO freeroll. While I am sitting on just under 20bb's, it's not as uncomfortable as you might think considering that I'm actually one of the top stacks. Still, 20bbs is 20bbs, and there's simply not much room for fancy play.

The Big Blind in this hand, NuGHuFFer712, is also sitting on 20bbs, slightly more than I, after recently lucking his way from bottom stack at this final table by getting his chips in behind on a flush draw. Which brings us to this hand:

We're down to 6, and I'm on the button. I look down at Q♥T♥. Not a powerhouse, but certainly two broadway cards is fine to open from the button. I pop it my standard 2.25x. I make these smallish raises when the antes get big for a few reasons. First is pot control. Nobody is fat-stacked, so keeping pots manageable is good for everyone who isn't holding AA or KK, which is usually everybody. I'm also comfortable playing most of the PO freerollers post-flop. Also, if I'm re-raised, I have no trouble getting away from a small pot. Additionally, sometimes I actually have a hand, so my smaller raises induce a lot of idiotic bluffs.

The small blind, Ch1pG0tt1870, makes a very loose call. I can't remember exactly how many chips he had (and of course Carbon's HH's don't bother to clarify), but I do recall thinking that with his stack, he's either way too loose or setting up a trap. Given that I'd watched him play for a while, I was fairly confident in ruling out the trap. If he'd had a hand to play, it should have been for all of his chips.

The big blind, our hero in this story, also makes the call. Now, with my small raise, he could have almost anything, and since I've only seen him play loose and aggressive, I'm perfectly fine letting him come into a raised pot from out of position. If he fires off a donk bet, it only serves to narrow his range. Yes, there will be times when I am trapped, but with our stacks, that worry is less relevant, as if I hit the flop, I'm not likely to fold. If we were much shorter, I could hit a flop AND have him show me an overpair, and good ol' mathematics would still justify a call. But generally, at 20bbs, most of the hands he'd have that have me beaten pre-flop should generate a 3bet of some kind. But no, he just calls, which is exactly what I want.

With the pot now at 8400, or 7bbs, we see a flop:

For my Q♥T♥, this is a decent flop. Top pair but a shady kicker. Ch1pG0tt1870 doesn't have enough chips to do anything other than shove, so when he checks that flop, it only confirms what I've already known - he's loose. And he missed. He makes his best play thus far in the hand by folding.

But NuGHuFFer712 does NOT fold, instead he fires out a perfect 3/4-pot-sized donk bet. Now, given our stacks, I can safely assume that if he's got me beat at this point, he's likely to have waited to see my C-bet then check-raise his pile. This donk bet, conversely, confirms that I am ahead in the hand. It's very likely he has a weaker Queen, a strong 6, or some variation on a draw or combo draw. He makes the pot look delicious, so I ship my pile in, putting him to the test. Does he want to put his tournament on this hand?

He tanks for a bit...we have, after all, been playing for over 2 hours, we're down to just 8, and he has to know at this stage that his hand is trailing. But that doesn't deter him...the answer to my question is "Yes," and he calls himself down to just a big blind or so with:

No pair, no straight possibilities, just a naked ten-high flush draw. Pre-flop, I was favored about 70/30...after the flop, once the chips get in the middle, I've lost a little ground, sitting at about 63/37. The turn, teaser tho she was, drops a helpful Q♣.

In these all-in situations online, unlike in a live tourney, there is no pause for dramatic effect. We don't cut away to a Milwaukee's Best Light commercial, hanging on the anticipation of the final card. No, with me now leading a comfortable 82/18, and knowing he has but 8 outs remaining in the deck, the end comes swiftly: 3♠

NuGHuFFer712 would go on to win the tourney, undoubtedly confirming his own brilliance. Ch1pG0tt1870 got 2nd which is another win for us all. These are the players upon which we depend, and these are the finishes which we must accept occasionally for them to continue to play the way they do.

KUDOS to today's Horribad PokerOwned freerollers. You've demonstrated yet again that poker is, after all, a game of luck.

Welcome back, gang...sorry it's been so long since my last update here, but I've been avoiding the freerolls for a bit. Of course, after cashing the bulk of my roll out, I'm rebuilding yet again, which means it didn't take long to find some absolutely laughable plays.

In today's early Carbon freeroll, I managed to get a player to check-min-raise me with his top two pair vs my straight, after which we put the piles in, and he caught his miracle 4-outer for the boat. But altho he was definitely a horribad player, that wasn't really the best example of purely foolish play. My most recent exit, however, is a brilliant display of the kind of poker that has allowed me to do all my holiday shopping with these peoples' money.

Leading up to this hand, on my right was CowbgyDang. Now I've seen some really bad players in my time, but this guy was primo sucko. He somehow managed to call his 40 or so BB's in cold with AQo vs AKh...the flop comes, with an A and two hearts, giving the AKh a 99% chance of winning. Our hero only needs running non-heart Q's or exactly non-heart JT, which of course is delivered for his pleasure. Later, he risks most of his stack again, pre-flop, as an 85% dog against KK, but alas, his miracle A comes on the river. And then later, against me, his JT butted up against my QT when we both turned trips, and he was saved again when the river A gave him a chop of the pot. Needless to say, he was feeling pretty proud of himself and his great play at that point. On my left was oakleyannie, a donk of Fancygirl and MyriamandMax proportions (I know, I know...it's hard to put anyone in that company, but trust me.)

I fought back, tho, and was sitting on a tenuous 20bbs or so, when this stunner of a player (annieoakley) ends up two players to my right after some tables collapsed. She starts the hand with around 3800 and is second to act. Looking down at her monster of a hand, she is compelled to limp in early position. When I see my KQo, I realize I am probably dominating her or barely behind some weak A, so I raise it 3.5x, to 700...the 1800-chip short-stack on my left flats this, which is a bit spooky because they really don't have a stack to be flatting early position raises - but then, it IS a freeroll and these fools LOVE a reason to just call, which, of course, annie does.

So off to the flop we go, with 2400 chips in the pot, it comes 5KJ rainbow. I've flopped top pair with Q-kicker, have a passive donk in front and a passive short-stack behind. I assume if either had a hand that was beating me at this point, they may have raised pre-flop. KJ, of course, is always possible from donks like this, as is 55, but if that's the case, so be it.

Naturally, annieoakley checks. When you discover just how strong her hand is you will understand. She is sitting on a monster. I really don't want to lose her, and I want to give the shortie some rope, so I also check my top pair. As planned, shortie moves his pile into the middle, betting his remaining 1174, or just under half the pot. To my surprise, annieoakley brilliantly check-shoves her pile, which puts me to a decision for 80% of my stack. I feel pretty good that I am not far behind shortie, if at all, and am very likely crushing annieoakley, so I quickly click the call button looking to rid the tournament of her super-solid play.

I turn over KQo, shortie turns over his KQs...we are tied, and with only one spade on the board, he'll need runner-runner to crack the tie. Then the sheer brilliance of annieoakley shines through, when she flips over her K2h. Naturally, her whole line now makes perfect sense. With 19bbs, she's going to be limping in early position with these kinds of suited 11-gappers, hoping to flop big draws. She can make SO many straights, and even has a flush chance, so hands like this are never to be folded in early position. This flop, in her mind, hit her right over the head, since she's got a backdoor flush draw AND a backdoor 2nd pair draw. How could she possibly fold? <edit: no hearts on board, I mis-read the HH, so she did NOT, surprisingly, have a flush draw of any kind, backdoor or otherwise>

Pre-flop, annieoakley's actually a 28% favorite vs us and our measley 70% chance of winning. THAT is EXACTLY when you want to spring a check-shove trap, but she actually waits for the flop, which only sucks us in further. After the flop, she becomes a 10% favorite to win. Naturally, with strength like that, she doesn't want to try to win outright, but wants to gain a few callers, which she effectively does with her -EV line. She waits until the short-stack shoves before putting her pile in BEFORE the pre-flop raiser has folded...absolutely brilliant!

So there we are on the flop with all our piles in the middle, when the turn brings the A of diamonds. Shortie and I are racing to the chop, only ahead by 93%. I should really know better than to expect anything other than exactly what annieoakley had planned all along: the river 2d. "Bink," as they say.

Poor shortie makes his exit, I mention something disparaging about her ridiculously low ROI across 600+ games, and she immediately limps in to the next pot UTG. Still awed by her brilliance, I watch as she takes down the next hand with her A6o - again, a hand that is NEVER to be folded before the flop.

Thank you, annieoakley. My kids are going to love the remote-controlled helicopters that losing players like you have paid for, and for which I will surely reap a better ROI - even when they crash and destroy them before lunch on Christmas Day - than have you in your 625 donkaments. Keep on keeping on, and don't change a THING!!

LOL. There are many horribad players here on PO. I love how they keep calling with air and Pokerstars always gives them flush or straight or whatever they were hoping for. I guess commiting almost all your chips just hoping to hit it is pretty normal for most of players. Who cares about pot odds and so on..... They do what they want Hahah.
